“The law, as well as department policy, requires officers to report when they fire their weapons, and no officer reported such an incident, according to Guglielmi.”

Well there you go people. Not one of these fine officers reported firing a shot. And it’s the law that they must do so. Therefore they didn’t fire a shot. A police officer isn’t going to break the law to cover up any sort of action on their part.

Nope, not a cop.  And certainly not in Chicago!

Yeah what the fuck is that about?? If an officer just executes someone they can turn around do a shaggy (you know the one) and the department just moves on!? If that’s even true then that seems like a big fuck off loophole that needs to be closed quick. If an officer is involved in a shooting of any kind, then they should surrender their weapon for checks. It’s really simple so they probably wont ever do it because killing people indiscriminately was what was promised when they signed up and the assholes in the police unions won’t ever let any process that risks actual consequence for their actions be a thing.

BTW, all you pro-police people and defenders that the family is over-reacting. We all know what they say happened may have actually happened. The family won’t say that, because a family of a suicide victim never want to admit that they were suicidal, because then they’d have to admit they didn’t notice their loved one was in pain.

The problem is, the police have absolutely NO CREDIBILITY in this country. And they are 100% of the reason why. As you see, day after day, week after week, one officer or a group do one thing and then claim something else happened instead (which we now see since anyone these days, esp. a person of color, who has an interaction with police should be recording this shit, or someone should be recording it), and they try to argue “but, but....” they lose that trust. And it is very hard to regain. You can’t just say “We got body cams now, so what we say must be true!” (so says baltimore cop seen on body cam planting evidence then miraculously finding it, because he was so stupid he forgot the camera records 30 seconds of video before they turn on recording).

And the public does not listen to prosecutors or the DA or police chiefs who say an action was justified. They use their brains, their common sense. They know an 87 year old woman with a knife who is in no way acting threatening isn’t a threat, and so they know tasing such a person is wrong. They know there is absolutely no actual justification for a police officer to jump onto the hood of a car and unload an entire clip of ammunition (or was it two clips?) through the windshield at the driver. They know there’s no real justification a man selling cigarettes on the street should be choked to death. They know that a man legally carrying a firearm and who has informed an officer he has a firearm, should not be shot dead because the cop sees a black man, hears the word gun, and immediately pulls out his own gun and shoots. Then know shooting a man who’s crawling on his stomach, under order of the police, because the police are too scared to go to him, should not be shot because he’s not good at crawling on his stomach and having his pants stay up.

The only people who seem to not know this are police officers and those who defend whatever it is that they do.

OK, I’ll get off my soapbox now and go back to living my life of white privilege, with the knowledge that the interactions I have with the police will not involve guns being drawn.

At this point, they’re so confident they can get away with killing people they’re just making shit up, knowing full well nothing will come of it.

Release the child’s body and get an independent investigation started.

People better protest the hell out of this or a lot of suspects will start committing suicide while evading the police from now on.

Can we please have a “whattaboutism” filter in the comments section on Root articles? If your comment starts with some version of “But what about...” or “How come you’re not talking about...”, no one needs to see it. I’m getting really tired of skimming over people’s 500-word essays on why no one is allowed to talk about black people getting shot by police because “Chicago”. Guess what, assholes- we can care about more than one thing! We can care about police murdering black people AND we can care about violence within specific communities. And I’m about to blow your mind here: they’re rooted in the same goodamn thing -systemic oppression. Fuck off with the “why doesn’t The Root ever talk about XYZ?!”. It’s not, as you racist shitstains like to claim, some “narrative” that The Root writers are trying to fit stories into. It’s reality.

I just have this horrible feeling that, if they ever release the body, it will be somehow missing the head. Or it will have been thoroughly cleaned, so any third-party coroner would have no ability to check for residues or the like. And the bullet will be a perfect match to the kids gun, but that it shows signs of being shot into a wall, not a head shot. Stuff like that.
