      Ham > steak > sausage (links) > sausage (patties) > bacon > chicken > sausage (ground) > ground beef.

    wait....only 13% of the American population is black? As a brit that sort of blows my mind. I would have thought it would have been at least twice that! When I think about American culture almost all my references are black people and black history. My main exceptions being sitcoms and most presidents.

    And we’ve all known this (I guess it’s nice to have a study) since forever, because one function of police in America is to keep people of color in their place. At the bottom of the pile of poor people.

    One of the funniest sad things I have ever seen in my life was the UK version of cops. Had the (he was really rude and mentally ill or on drugs) arrested gentleman of color been in America, he’d be dead. The police were clearly offended and put out, but they treated him like a human being, and also oddly gave him the cigarettes he demanded.

      Police racism in the UK is pretty rampant. The Sephen Lawrence case showed how deep and pernicious it is. If you can, watch “Stephen: The Murder that Changed a Nation” (except it really didn’t). It’ll break your heart.

      Not carrying guns limits UK cops’ ability to shoot black people dead, but a worrying number have unexplained “heart attacks” or a tendency to “fall down stairs” while in police custody. So, while the cops may have the sense to behave when the cameras are on, they’re not that much better overall.

      I prefer living in the US but any other English-speaking country destroys the US in the quality of its police force. NYC has been steadily making strides in the past 20 years but not necessarily everybody is following suit. London has issues but it doesn’t have a large colony of mentally tortured prisoners going through How To Be A Career Criminal school.

    BTW, when do us civilian population start demanding that our police officers stand up and denounce those officers who violate their ‘sacred trust’ (LOL, sacred trust, oh, that was years ago wasn’t it) with the community when a member of any police force goes too far, commits a crime, beats up an innocent civilian on the streets, shoots an unarmed person who’s being forced to crawl on their stomach because police are too scared to go to them, shoot an 87 year old woman, kills a man without even identifying to him that they are police officers, or shoot a suspect in the back, or jump on the hood of a car and fire - 15 rounds was it? - into the car (apparently the driver was so threatening the cop jumped right in front of him, I guess to get out of his line of sight?)?

    You know, the way all blacks are supposed to denounce black-on-black crime and the mayhem that supposedly goes on in chicago, or the way all muslims do when there’s a terrorist attack somewhere.

    Oh, just pointing out, more unarmed people have been killed by cops this year than have been killed by official “terrorists” (i.e. those radical islam folks, not the school shooters or the vegas guy or anything that involves, you know, white folks) in the last 10 years. But while we take off our shoes and belts at an airport, we’ll let anyone get a gun or become a cop.
