Guys. The black guy did a bad thing in the past: totally means he deserved to get killed.

      Probably had it coming too.

The people that make those false equivalencies would basically say Mother Theresa had it coming because she was quite the hell raiser in her youth. In short, even a perfect person has done imperfect things in their youth/past.. but that should have NOTHING to do with the situation at present when the actions of another as the aggressor claimed their life.

To everyone who tried to justify Sheriff Bob Gualtieri not arresting Michael Drejka:

There is no justification. The guy is a loose cannon and it was a matter of time until he shot someone. His previous threats are absolutely relevant to this case. He should never have been allowed to own firearms after brandishing it and threatening anyone. Plus he should’ve gone to JAIL for that.

The... “but the black man hit him first” mentality is exactly the reason why gun control needs to be the focus because I do not trust gunnuts to determine what constitutes the right scenario for self-defense. Like, what exactly constitutes your life being danger? Does it occur when you’re being pummeled into the ground, or does it merely happen after the first punch. Or maybe all that needs to happen is a black guy walking menacingly towards you. That’s exactly why George Zimmerman was able to get away with killing Treyvon Martin: because no one can determine whether the perpetrator was justly scared other than the perpetrator himself. Zimmerman and his lawyers were able to take what basically amounted to an ass kicking after a confrontation that HE STARTED, to Zimmerman was terrified because the scary young black boy was going to kill him.

He played off of society’s natural bias against young black bodies as violent killers, and got away with it clean

Even if McGlockton started that fight--there were so many ways ya could have diffused that situation or even gotten the fuck out of there.  But nope...white boy started shit, terrified of possibly getting his shit stomped by the big scary man, and decided to shoot him in “self-defense.”  That ain’t self-defense--that’s fucking murder.

You know I don’t really get the greys at this point? Why come here if you have absolutely no interest in discussing the topic at hand.

Because here’s the thing: I do think that white people can have a dialogue when it comes to race; in fact, they should. But that can’t happen if you’re operating purely from a stance of hurt feelings. Systemic racism is a devastatingly complex thing that effects “everyone” (including white people) negatively. And you can’t have that conversation if you’re too busy defending yourself because you’re so offended of the implication that you might not be as good a person as you thought you were.

This is how we get strawmans, and whataboutisms, and “I’m not racist, but...” because being able to be introspective and realize that you’re not an individual snowflake, but instead the product of a problematic society—and guess what so is everyone else on this forum—takes a level of humility and insight that, unfortunately, people continue to prove they don’t have. It’s easier to kick and scream and get angry.

One thing we need to understand is that they do not want to understand.  They just want to be right. So, talking to them from a position of logic or compassion or humanity is useless.  They are very consumed with winning and will do anything to win.  Instead, you have to make it look like their position is a losing position and they’ll flip and contort to get on what they feel is the right side.  They follow the alpha male, flip him and the whole herd will follow.

You 100 percent have every right to protect yourself if someone comes into your home. However, is everywhere your castle? Is the parking lot your castle?”

That sums it up for me, as well. If someone breaks into your house, you should be able to defend yourself; if someone pushes you in a parking lot, or even punches you, pushes you to the ground, you shouldn’t get a free pass to shoot them. If you start a fight with someone, you shouldn’t get a free pass to shoot them if they fight back. And I realize the law addresses that, but even when it’s clear the shooter initiated the contact & aggression, they still seem to get a pass. ? Or lets say there’s no witnesses or video, just a guy(or girl) with a gun, and a dead guy... Well, obviously the shooter is going to say they felt threatened.

“Feel threatened” is such a subjective assessment. If I shoot someone unjustly, how can you PROVE that I _didn’t_ feel threatened? Just doesn’t make sense.

The Feel Threatened part, and the bit about the dead person unable to defend slander about their actions is why “Stand Your Ground” is such fucking horseshit.

“Michael Drejka’s history shows that this guy has a history of pulling out that handgun at will,”

That’s brandishing and it’s against the law.

For whatever reason the people he brandished against did not press charges, in both cases. It is mind-boggling.

The most insidious part of stand your ground is that it applies if you think you were threatened. Even if there is no rational grounds for feeling threatened.
