“Certainly, there is a person that’s dead as a result of this tragic situation but that doesn’t mean that the person is a victim legally.”

Yeah, I ain’t buying whatever this judge is selling.  The guy is on trial for killing somebody.  Doesn’t matter what the defense is.  Apparently the new way to put the victim on trial is to not call him a victim.

Was only sixteen bullets. Had it been seventeen, maybe we could call him a victim. Maybe.

      ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don’t count on it. Even with that bullet and trussed up like a turkey with the cop’s bedsheets with his name and badge number on them, he still wouldn’t be called a victim by this judge.

In Chicago, if you’re fixed up right, you can do pretty much whatever the fuck you want.

I’m going to go ahead and leave this for anyone who wants to know more about this judge. It’s a couple years old but I think it still very much applies.

And I think we need to understand that legalese has different definitions than plain English, and that this must be taken into account when discussing how language is used in a court room. Of course, our “justice” system and its language is fairly deliberate in having reinforced white supremacy, but I feel like this distinction must still be acknowledged.

You’re welcome. I think this judge is actually a good choice to preside over this case, just hoping the jury hears out the prosecution’s side. There’s zero justification for Laquan not being alive because that racist piece of shit cop was so trigger happy.

If you can call Van Dyke the “alleged murderer” as per the charge, you can call McDonald his “alleged victim.” Since McDonald never got the chance to go to fucking trial to disprove he was a legitimate “deadly threat” to justify Van Dyke killing him, he’s a goddamn victim unless Van Dyke gets acquitted.

I’d probably try to argue that.   Maybe put it in a brief and send it to the prosecutors, if any of them are both hopefully of color and not completely steeped in the Cook Country system’s racist supremacist applications of teachings.   (That’s a hard get, I know.)

Technically, they shouldn’t allow the defendant to be called a police officer, since that also prejudices the jury that he’s a man of ‘law and order’, not to mention he may or may not be a police officer under the terms they have in the books, which I think includes not using your authority to murder people in the streets.

Hey, he did let them show the video! Even though, as I’m sure it was argued, it would be prejudicial to the jury against the cop, because, you know, it shows them that he’s nothing but a straight up murderer.

And did they also charge him and his cop buddies with perjury and submitting false reports, since they all tried to lie their way out of this.

Well, I be goddamned. They are criminalizing the murder victim.

Why the fuck are they even going through this farce of a trial??

    Welp.

Figures that this would be the “reasoning” in Chicago.

Well, good thing local elections are coming up in Feb 2019.

So the prosecutor can’t call Mr. McDonald a victim? Uh, well whom is dead then? How did the cop’s bullet get into Mr. McDonald then?

Is there a way to test this judge for drugs? This doesn’t make sense. No logic here.

And they say we black folks are stupid. SMH
