You’re talking about suggestive “ghetto” names, and your company is named “Mantality”? GTFO, right now.

Beat me to it. I know sometimes people get desperate, but you do not want to work for a company with that name unless it’s a gay strip club.

    “hacked”

Why is it when people get caught doing some shady shit on their janky PCs that’s the first thing they say? Folks don’t even know what real hacking is.

Y’all got caught. Or maybe pranked. But not “hacked.”

This. Even if it’s a disgruntled former employee using his old password to get into the system, that’s still not hacking.

And I’m sure that the Mantality Health account on Indeed.com is target #1 for hackers.

I actually consider it pretty plausible that someone who’s not Jordan Kimler sent those emails using Kimler’s account. Back in the ‘00s folks in my company would prank the shit out of coworkers who didn’t lock their computer when they got up to go to a meeting/lunch/the bathroom; I seem to recall that this was one of the grievances of the guy who shot up our main IT office back in 2010.

I can’t imagine there being too many other people working in that office, though—I Googled the address and it’s not exactly a huge building—so it’s either Kimler or someone who sits very close to him.

During the summer between my junior and senior years of college, I interned at an investment management firm in Rochester, NY. My first or second week there, a full-timer who was fresh out of college got fired within two hours of sending a mildly profane email forward to the whole company.

I’ve been cautious about this stuff ever since.

Jordan walked by the fax machine and saw her resume and thought he would have some racist fun. No one who actually knows how to hack is going around hacking Indeed employer accounts to say racist shit. Racist people openly do racist shit and say racist shit and 100% of racist people are stupid as fuck. MAYBE 2% of them are smart enough to spend the insane amount of time required to learn how to hack and actually succeed.

I know 2% is a guesstimate, but the gray section here is constantly making up precentages of black crimes and shit so it is absolute FACT that 2% is generous.

Then you don’t know much about hackers or hacking. Lot of misanthropes with too much time on their hands in that group.  And considering most hacking is accomplished via email/phone phishing or brute-force guessing shitty passwords, there isn’t a whole lot of prior knowledge necessary.  You need to be smarter to make meth than you do to be a “hacker.”  How smart are the meth dealers you’ve seen?

      I do.

“most hacking is accomplished via email/phone phishing or brute-force guessing shitty passwords”

      That is not hacking.

Damn, this has been going on for years, of course. NYT had article a year ago about how so-called “ghetto” or ethnic names actually result in slower responses from 911 operators, fire and EMT in some instances. That shzt is whack.

I think if your parents jacked you with a f’ed up name and you’re talented, educated and not promised a long career in professional sports, you might want to consider a name change, drop the De’s and La’s, apostrophes and hyphens. Sad, but real life.

Once upon a time, I did an experiment with my name. LaKeisha. Sent out resumes with my full name and then one with my initials.  You can guess which ones got responses.....and which companies I didn’t really want to work for....

Let’s be honest here. A company would be opening themselves up to a huge discrimination lawsuit if they did something like this. I can believe that someone was trying to fuck with the company, fuck with the employee, or do both. Email spoofing isn’t that hard to do.

It doesn't even have to be spoofing. A disgruntled employee and logins that haven't been changed would do it. Pretty effectively.

The really sad thing is that the woman who posted the incident on Facebook will probably do damage to her job prospects more than anything else. She could have contacted the company to check the email’s authenticity or sought legal help. Instead she’s brought bad press to a company that are (more than likely) victims themselves. Employers don’t look too favorably on that type of whistle-blowing.

One of the reasons The only reason I secretly thank Dr. Condoleeza Rice for her representation of ‘unusual’ name choices that parents make. She seemed to do pretty well for herself. She also proved that the name means absolutely nothing unless people choose it to be so.

Oh, and that hacking? That’s some bullshit. Unless someone sat at the person’s computer and typed it out while they were away from their desk as a joke (possible but not probable), they are full of shit.

Let me let you in on a lil secret....unless your name is Condoleeza or Oprah or any other “ghetto” sounding name that is held by someone famous, you’re still ass out as the mentality in this country is that blacks are monolithic. And the fact that you (general sense) AREN’T that person. So, you’re still a xyz to the racist reading your resume.

Unfortunately, I am fully aware. As a teacher of my folks in a predominantly Black school district, it’s a thought every time I read my school roster for the new year. It’s just that I have hope that it will get better based upon those that have come before them. I am old enough to remember Oprah on a local Baltimore station before her talk show. She was a sturdy woman with an afro and the name Oprah. And now 35 years later, she is a billionaire. I know, I know, “exception, not the rule” but we can’t get people to stop generating creative names so.....we have to push for more acceptance. And start more companies.

One word would fix all of this: Sue.

Get Benjamin Crump or one of his associates, sue, win and retire to get your groove on, somewhere sunny and warm.

I’m guessing that either someone (Jordan?) is REALLY racist at that company, or they were trying to get the company sued.

I don’t have a ton of legal knowledge, but I do know from interviewing about a billion times that telling people why they didn’t get a job is opening yourself up to a lawsuit if they can find evidence of racism etc.

I bet that if they did sue, the company would figure out what happened REAL quick! Instead of just claiming they were hacked.

Nah, I think they were probably hacked. Not that they wouldn’t reject a candidate for a “ghetto” name. They just wouldn’t be likely to be honest about it.

Meanwhile, this sort of stupid, juvenile, misanthropic behavior is exactly what I’d expect from a certain subset of the “hacker” culture.
