I definitely don’t think they ever do anything to civil rights/BLM protesters beside harass and try to intimidate them. But I do think in a case like “unite the right 2" where you have 12 white supremacists and thousands of civil rights protesters, you have to protect the white supremacists in that scenario cause.... that could get ugly. If the police were not protecting the white supremacists, I would be very tempted to hit one of them in the head with a brick.

  They definitely do. They shot a BLM protester early on when it first started, and initially they harrassed at regular meetings. Not protests meetings.

tl;dr It would seem so, yes.
Could there be a direct connection between police response to white nationalists and the presence of racist or white nationalist officers on a police force?
I wish I could remember where I read/heard it (maybe Vox?), but back in the 80's or early 90's the klan plan was to infiltrate the police forces across the country in order to support the white supremacists when the “inevitable race war” came. (You may be able to find that source better than me.)

It’s hard to explain police actions holistically without the idea that they’re using their muscle on counter-protesters and not the far-right. Too many incidents, too many witness accounts, too many well documented cases of racism and ties to hate groups in the police, to pretend otherwise.
Portland’s PD is apparently notoriously bad on the issue, but it seems like the far-right assholes get softer treatment no matter where the event occurs.

As mentioned in the article, I believe there’s been a lot of research that has shown white power groups and radical groups have spent decades infiltrating law enforcement agencies. It’s why ICE has no problem ripping children from parents and police have no problem beating down antifa while they watch white supremacists point guns and shoot at peaceful protesters.

Portland Police straight-up lied in public about antifascists having weapons on August 4th. When someone pointed out that almost every weapon they confiscated had a Confederate flag or an image of Pepe the frog, the police response was “antifa must have planted those.”
