      Sadly, you are right. In a link within her last big Root article, Shuler threw the whole ‘ hood a big meal giveaway to raise awareness on Meek Mills harsh treatment.

      She literally ran a large, well-known neighborhood kitchen - presumably for profit and personal income - and engaged in public activism, much less the big baller parties.

      It’s absolutely a no brainer. If you’re claiming federal disability, you keep your shit on the up and up. Don’t put your business on all over the internet for all and sundry to see. If you have side hustles, you keep them small. I’ve had patients have their benefits docked for going over the work income limits by a few hundred dollars and these were people utilizing the whole ticket to work program and not doing a quarter of what this woman was. You know they’re coming after you when you claim disability but are clearly out there lifting, cooking, etc...

    I do not know if this is woman is guilty, but I will say in my professional experience, people do not think claiming disability is fraud even if they are not disabled. For some reason, millions of Americans think if they have a pain or even a slight difficulty, they should be able to get disability.

    It is really insane and I really don’t get it. I remember having to explain to someone that they were not disabled just because they had an ortho diagnosis that explained their mild back pain. They really thought they could quit working because of back pain even though the person was very active physically and did not have any problems or issues at their desk job.

      I have a progressive health condition that is going to disable me over time. I sometimes have to ignore severe pain when I work and I also get moderately injured on the job due to my condition (such as spraining fingers or ankles). One day I might need disability assistance and to stop working. However working for as long as I can is extremely important to me.

      Hearing healthy people use fraud to take funds from those who actually need it really bothers me.

      It bothers me too and it’s one of the reasons SSA has a backlog of disability appeals. The vast majority of those appealing are not disabled and they are holding up the benefits of legitimate claimants with proper appeals.

      Also, I’m sorry about your condition. Please take care of yourself out here.

      I saw that number and did a double take too. Are we sure it’s 140 years? Even Madoff didn’t get that much. And I’m not making a point about race either. Wesley Snipes withheld way more than that and only faced a couple years.

      She’s not going to get 140 years. This is just how media outlets report these stories. They take the maximum possible sentences of all charges and counts, and then they add them all up. It’s lazy reporting that has little to do with how prosecution and sentencing actually work.

      A lie is a 100% (I didn’t do it), which to a lawyer is a very different thing than “its an unfounded allegation” because it allows them to save face is their client is guilty.

      Remember kids, lawyers live/die by their reps.. so they want to play both sides of the fence until situation pushes them onto one or the other side.

    To Ms. Shuler, being double marginalized immediately won’t draw bad attention: it’s having an Arabic name, being double marginalized, and throwing extravagant soirees is the trifecta of extra-sauce on whatever sentencing you will receive.

    If she is found guilty (Which she may very well be), she’s fucked. The government will put you -under-the fucking jail for fucking with SNAP and SSD. No, she’s not going to get 140 years, but she’s going to get a ton and you can count on her paying back every single dime she maybe didn’t deserve and then some.
