To the idiot in the grays (there’s only one currently).

I heard fireworks until at least 3 am on 7/5.  It was very irritating. You know what I didn’t do?  Kill anyone. (not to mention, if he thinks the fireworks were a nuisance, I wonder how he feels about sitting in jail?)

Yeah. I am *convinced* my neighbors somehow got a hold of professional mortars and set them off until around 2 am.

      Still didn't shoot anybody

The most important part of this story: Police BELIEVED him until they saw cell phone video that contradicted it. He (and the cops) knew all he had to say was “i was afraid for my life!” and he would walk. How different would things have gone with George Zimmerman if only one of those houses had a security camera...

Of course they believed him. He’s white.

Also these laws are set up (like Florida’s which was changed after Zimmerman to be worse, if you can believe it!) that you have to prove they weren’t fearful of their life, as opposed to requiring someone who has taken a life to prove he feared for it.

      Gotta love the NRA!

If the houses had had a security camera what they would have seen is Trayvon Martin pounding on George Zimmerman followed by Zimmerman shooting him.  The verdict would have been the same.  Wait, no, let me correct that.  There never would have been a verdict because the case would have never gone to trial.

That dude is one year older than me, and if we stood next to each other you’d 100% believe he was thirty years older. Stay away from the Dark Side, y’all.

That dude’s 11 years younger than I am, and I’m pretty sure you’d guess it was the other way around if we stood next to each other.

Basically the younger white guy used his gun to make sure the older white guy could safely assault a black teenager. And now a couple of cowardly assholes will get a slap on a wrist while another black family grieves the loss of a child to the american way of life.

    Fuck.This.Country.

(The guy really doesn’t look like Dean Norris and besides, Dean Norris is a really good guy. Ask Niecy Nash about working with him. He doesn’t deserve to be conflated with this craven piece of shit murdering cretin.)

For Norris to go from Hank to Uncle Daddy in such a seamless manner is all sorts of WTF.

If Texas LE arrested him, I have doubts Texas Stand Your Ground will save him. Texas LE has a habit of not arresting an individual if the law comes into play, allowing for the DA to make a determination. However, it might save him because Texas/White Man. Texas law states that you do not have a duty to retreat from a threat as long as you have a right to be present at the location. According to the article, there was no threat of lethal force (Pushing someone is not lethal force for the idiots out there. I don’t care how old his father is pushing does not reach that threshold.). I also wonder where the shooting occurred? Was it on Ortiz’ property or was it on the public street? It’s semantics I know but those are real questions in regard to prosecuting this individual. This is not stand your ground under Texas law. But... Texas+White Man=acquittal.

The fact the guy lied to police is probably enough for him to be charged with something.

      Then again, I'm thinking logically.

The stereotypes for Texas don’t really apply to Austin. He won’t get away with shit.

Thought about this some more - after seeing Roche brandish and actually pull out his handgun (that seems like a pretty fair ‘threat to life’), seems like the Texas law would have been ok with Ortiz pulling out a gun and shooting Roche? Is the law ‘he who shoots first’ goes free? Seems like Ortiz would have had more of a claim to being ‘afraid for his life’, than Roche. ?

‘he who is afraid the most’ can shoot?

Ah, see, you didn’t read the fine print. “This clause is for white people only. May not be combined with any other coupons.”

Well, I did figure that... but hypothetically, all things and shades of skin being equal, Ortiz seemed to be the one most threatened by (someone) else. Roche wasn’t obviously threatened - he had his gun, he pulled it out and fondled it, put it back in his holster. If he was really afraid for his life he would have pulled it out once, no flashing it around & showing it off. I think that might come back to bite him. Even with his skin color.

“I was waving my gun around maliciously and verbally assaulted this kid! He then looked like he was going to grab a gun, so I shot him in self defense!”

The George Zimmerman defense. But this time there was video.
