The existence of slavery in this country brands your republicanism as a sham, your humanity as a base pretence, and your Christianity as a lie ... Oh! be warned! be warned! a horrible reptile is coiled up in your nation’s bosom; the venomous creature is nursing at the tender breast of your youthful republic; for the love of God, tear away, and fling from you the hideous monster, and let the weight of twenty millions crush and destroy it forever!

I don’t know why we don’t see more of Frederick Douglass on the TV circuit or at events. Is he involved in Black Lives Matter? He’s a great 2020 candidate, he’s done an amazing job.

So according to white person pulled from the greys the forced separation of children from parents and placing them in concentration camps, destroying records so that they can’t be reunited, all for seeking asylum and/or committing a civil misdemeanor isn’t an actual issue or mistreatment.

Yup. That person definitely would have been the same people in the 50s and 60s crying about Rosa Parks violating the law and how the bus boycott was divisive and confrontational.

    Bootlicker.

My fave grey comment is saying shit like “this isn’t what MLK died for.”

Bitch! He wasn’t Jesus. He didn’t say he was born to die. White folks murdered him. I’m sure he wanted to keep on living.

      These greys are salty.

I’m sure MLK would have been in favor of holding children in concentration camps...really seems up his alley.

That’s great but how about some protection? White men have been openingly coming for black women and children in public.  How about having our backs? Don’t let trashy Becky use her bbc addiction to be an asshole. And admit you’re not getting reputations between her legs. And stop bitching about us in your music, on the internet, etc - talk to a therapist instead like that black guy on Viceland. Treat us with respect, listen to us, tell us we’re beautiful and be kind.

    That’s all for now.

Everything you said! As Michael Harriott helped me definitively, irrevocably conclude that wypipo are cowards and evil, I must also lament that the warrior spirit has been effectively bred and beaten out of Black men. The fundamental drive to provide and protect their own Black women and children at any cost is just gone. Blame whomever you wish for it’s inception in slavery but it wasn’t removed by dna therapy. And the instinct for self-preservation and survival that accounts for Black female success can’t be blamed either. The tru warrior never blamed a woman’s independence because that kept his family alive while he fought the battles. No warrior thrived by not paying homage (without equivocation) where due either. Yet Black women wait, endure, fight and grow bone-weary, disillusioned and dejected by the disrespect, the insults, and just the nothingness we receive in return. Until we have to endure you showing up to the picnic with Becky and your half-Becky babies ready to battle to the death anyone who dares not cut THEM a piece of pie.

      I'm weary.

Best comment on here! These white men are even sending us death threats on social media! Some p.o.s. politician said Maxine Waters should be shot on Facebook and, nothing's being done about it!

The best part of this story, to me, is how the closure of the monument is described as an “evacuation”.  Oh noes, someone was climbing on the statue, send in the Red Cross!  I hope there were warm blankets and hot cocoa ready along with the crisis counselors.

She was raising the point that lady liberty stood for freedom for all. Ellis Island was the gate way for many people who came here wanting a better life for they’re kids ECT. It's heart breaking that this country breaks up family's.  No different than the concentration camps. Im sure Hitler in his twisted mind thought he was doing the right thing.  I hope in the next life Trump and his kids come back with brown faces thats the only way to fully understand another mans plight.

Fun fact: The original models for the statue were black women. White people, even scholars, will obviously fight you on this and on what it all means, but it’s an undeniable fact. The sculptor based his designs for Liberty on a concept for a colossal statue he had been working on based on Egyptian sculpture and using black Egyptian women as models. Additionally, Liberty was originally meant to celebrate the end of slavery—the discussion of (white European) immigration usurped that meaning 40+ years after the fact. I think it’s apt that Liberty has come to represent accepting immigrants of all stripes, but that was never the intent. So the metaphor goes much deeper than even written about here, which is both beautiful and sad.

The same people bitching about Okoumou “defiling” the Statue of Liberty on the 4th of July are shrugging their shoulders over the 8 GOP Senators and Reps spending the same day in Moscow asking Putin if he prefers butter or jelly when Trump tosses his salad on the 16th.

I’m pretty sure Trump made a pretty vile racist comment against the woman protesting on the Statue of Liberty. It may be because I’m British but when I was growing up, and before bananas became the fruit of choice, nuts were thrown at us whilst making monkey noises. I was unaware of the ethnicity of the protester until I saw the clip of Trump’s comments on the news and decided to check. Sure enough.
