    You think all these “demand identification” types wanted to be Cops and couldn’t cut it, or it’s just a desire for segregated pools, or both?

    Do they not know about the Polio vaccine? Nobody ever got pregnant just swimming in a chlorinated pool.

    White people seem to be super fucking concerned about sharing pools with Black folks.

      It’s like some weird hall monitor instinct. These are definitely the kind of people who, as schoolchildren, made lists of anyone who “misbehaved” while a substitute teacher was in charge so that they could tattle to the regular teacher. These are the kind of people who justify the treatment of migrant children as acceptable because their parents “didn’t follow the rules”. These are the kind of people who will always, always, ALWAYS stick up for anyone who mistreats POC with some bullshit “well, there’s two sides, we don’t know the whole story, maybe they deserved it” nonsense.

    I think I would have asked to cop “who is this gentleman that I have to show my ID to him at all? Is he neighborhood security? Is he the pool manager? Officer, what gives him the right to ask for any form of identification at all? Who is he? I will show him my ID when he gives me proof that he is a person that requires it” Additionally, can she file charges for harassment and/or get a restraining order that would then bar his dumb ass from access to the pool? Because THAT would be awesome

    I would love to be able to laugh at this too, Michael (“the sentient marshmallow” quip is worthy of many stars), but with young teenage black men in my family and my friends’ families, I am worried about all of this police calling. Someone is going to get seriously hurt because they run, or they’re just damn tired of it and they mouth off to one of these officers and then they’re hurt. Their spirits will be deflated too because it’s not fair or normal to be the target of senseless harassment. It’s really deplorable, and it sickens me and makes me frightened DAILY for my children and their friends. Goddamnit, why can’t people just leave us the FUCK alone??

They are so miserable with their own lives, the sight makes them jealous and full of rage. Meanwhile they could start to fix the root of their problem if they started working to dismantle white supremacy.

    Good lord, I’m white, and if I was within earshot of that mess I would’ve got arrested for getting so far up that douchebag’s ass it would’ve ended with fists. “That’s good enough for me today.” What does that even mean? “Eh, I guess black people get to swim in the pool today. I’ll get ‘em next time.” There was no apology because he clearly won’t accept that a black family lives in his community. And, “It would’ve been nice to see an ID”?!? Who the fuck do you think you are? Also, those cops were enablingly douchey. Once you realize a call is frivolous you can completely say that rather than treat the person who frivolously had the cops called on them on the same level as the frivolous caller. We’ve seen that, once that I can think of, in these far too common videos.

      I’m going to respectfully disagree with the second half of your response. Asserting that you can essentially call a 911 complainant a dumbass (in nicer words) is sort of indicative of someone who isn’t in a profession where everyone who doesn’t get the answer they want makes a civilian complaint about you.

      The flip side of increasing civilian oversight of police is that the number of frivolous complaints ABOUT the police far outnumbers those about legitimate police misconduct.

      Every racist busybody piece of shit who will pick up the phone and call 911 for a frivolous reason will just as enthusiastically complain that the police didn’t “do their jobs” (ie: the caller’s bidding) to the police department. If they’ll call the police on a black person swimming, they’ll call the police ON the police for not doing.....whatever the fuck they thought they were going to do too.

      It’s a no win situation and sometimes the best course of action is maintain a professionally neutral demeanor and simply explain to everyone in as nice a way possible that no police action can be taken and leave.
