    So... the Streisand Effect then.

The principal didn’t want to be called out in a speech (despite that being the most tepid of calls - barely a whisper), silenced the top student, and now, all the way up North in Canada, I am reading about what a douche bag Joseph Munno is...

    You chose poorly, Joseph.

He really worked it all out in his head that “This is OK now and I’ll be praised for this!!!”  Bet on it.

Charter/Private school administration tends to attract people like Murro, petty tyrants that love the combination of power over people’s lives and next to zero oversight from the State.

He (Munno) apparently founded the school. I’m suspending some judgement here, till we pass the window of some other info dropping.

He founded this school because he was fired by Aquinas as their football coach, a private Catholic School in the city of Rochester.  Not for the kids, he created a school in the city to compete with their enrollment and take student athletes... from experience this Munno is a world class POS - he had racist complaints when he was football coach at AQ - he always makes time for his enemies, this wonderful young man and his family should be watchful... trust me I was In his shoes 20 years ago!

I’m not going to ask what will happen to the principal who acts like a spoiled brat and denied a kid is rightful place as valedictorian (in the town where Frederick Douglass because the odds are in his spoiled ass favor that all he will get is some stern looks from his peers who will be more bothered that this went national instead of calling their boy out for being a motherfucker.

    Also, Hey Mayor Lovely.

“Calling out the principal by name like that is not civilized discourse” - tons of people who spend the rest of their time defending freedom of speech, probably

This region of NY was home to Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, the Underground Railroad...and some white supremacists.

Peaceout!” - First draft of the valedictorian speech I proposed to Jaisaan but he rejected because he’s a better person than me.

I couldn’t’a been that cool.   ‘Course, my school didn’t try to stop me from speaking (I had parents in the system and a working RBF at sixteen).

    Rochester, N.Y., Mayor Lovely Warren

    First name checks out.

“There’s a lot of wrong things that go on at that school, and when I notice it I speak out against it,” he said. “[Munno] is a guy that doesn’t like to be told ‘no.’”

Kid, your future’s so bright, you're gonna need shades. Rock on, young man.

Regulars on The Root may recall my response to this article...This place, Rochester, NY, is my aforementioned hometown in upstate NY.

Fifty plus years and the stupid never ends...

      Well, hello Fellow Rochesterians :)

Yes, I moved from there years ago.

Are you still there or did you move?

I’ve read Yesha Callahan referencing VA as her current home.

Principal needs to be fired. You don’t get into personal beefs like this with students. Jesus. What a tremendous asshole.

It gets worse, he’s not really the Principle, he’s the President of the school. Privately run. He’d have to fire himself.....

Just another mediocre, vindictive, washed-up, jealous wannabe in a position of power and authority trying to flex because inside they know kids like this have more potential than they could even dream of. STAY. IN. YOUR. LANE. There are REAL educators out there who should bring him to task and check others like him. Running a school is hard - we get it - and sometimes high-schoolers are straight knuckleheads - but personal vendettas against children is petty and ridiculous and he should be ashamed. Get your curmudgeonly behind out of here with this mess. We gotta start listening to kids when they tell us about these adults and raise hell in their tiny offices until they get the message loudly and clearly - stop fucking with our kids.

Too often, we forget that what drives so many older folks to be total, incomprehensible assholes is their own awareness that their window has closed. Life becomes a lot harder when your dreams have become dashed and your life is on a monotonous loop until you die. Suddenly, shutting down those who still have the audacity to dream feels good.

      TLDR: These old assholes suck.
