I graduated from Syracuse University and still know people that work in admissions. Someone that was admitted to the university for the fall of 2017 posted on Facebook after getting his acceptance letter that he was given a roommate with a hispanic last name, Syracuse actually takes great pains to try and diversify room assignments, and this asshat posted to his Facebook page his displeasure about this and couldn’t wait till Trump built the wall and got all these people the fuck out of his country. The University was made aware of this and didn’t give him a slap on the wrist, they pulled his acceptance. I asked someone isn’t he protected under free speech and she explained to me that the University had a right to decide who walks it’s halls. If Purdue doesn’t fire this bitch they are nothing but cowards. Needless to say I am very proud of my Alma Mater.

  Syracuse is a private university. Purdue is public. Rightly or wrongly, they’ve got very different limits for what they can do. Syracuse could basically fire or rescind anyone for any reason other than a protected one; Purdue, as a government actor, can’t fire someone for what’s ruled as ‘free speech.’

He didn’t listen to them (because he is Moochin’ Mnuchin and may well get caught up in a criminal probe for his trouble, which cheers me up more than it probably should) - but Gary Cohn did. I know about Purdue; my father is an IU graduate. We all need to use the power we have.

They hate it so much that they’ll leave Fox News just to hear what the black folks at the Root are talking about. They show up to a black neighborhood in the dead of night just to burn a cross on a negroes’ lawn. They call the police to check on us...just to see if were ready to go to Heaven yet. Racists will even go out of their way to spray racist graffiti on a black church...just to let the negroes know that they are constantly thinking about them. Racists can’t live without black people. They don’t even know how to feel better about themselves...if there’s no negroes to compare themselves too.

...Seriously? That’s a picture from 44 years ago, of two minors (at least one of whom is dressed up to appear pregnant) in blackface on Halloween. None of this would fly now, were someone to do it 44 years later in 2018. But Stillman did not do this in 2018. Stillman posted it in 2016, in a flippant manner on their personal profile, and if I’m reading it correctly that’s the only objectionable thing the student found there, while Newsone couldn’t find anything else.
So I’m a little lost here. What exactly is Stillman supposed to be punished for, by Purdue? Dressing up in blackface 44 years ago? Posting a blackface picture on her personal FB profile? Posting her own childhood blackface picture on her personal FB profile? (The U of Oregon law professor they mention was suspended for a year, but she’d worn blackface as a grown-ass adult, in 2016.)
For that matter, how is Purdue supposed to punish her, if the worst they know about her is an old photo and a lab incident, both of which only one student ever bothered to report - and she had to go looking for one of them? (Yes, yes, there are probably other incidents, but Newsone definitely doesn’t know about them.) As far as we know, this is a first warning, and Stillman seems to have immediately complied with Purdue’s investigation. So, what exactly is the problem here, in 2018, nearly a year after all of that concluded?
(They didn’t even bother to check and see if she still had the damn picture up, which actually would be a problem and likely a fireable offense! Or, for that matter, check Purdue’s most recent hate crime stats for 2016, instead relying on secondhand info about 2012's.)
