Sigh. They mad because she has a chance to be the first working mom back at the #1 ranking in the WTA and might actually do it even though they still have no childcare facilities at Wimbledon for the women even as Vika Azarenka two years ago had to borrow Mike Bryan’s keys to the ATP childcare room, which they’ve had for the men for years.

No racism in the sport either, though – even though a black umpire working for the USTA for over a decade just got the go-ahead from the EEOC to sue them for harassment and discrimination throughout his career with them, and Françoise Abanda, as I was just discussing with another reader, is literally being heckled by white Canadians because she has less media attention and less endorsements than Eugenie Bouchard, even though Françoise is the Canadian Ladies #1 now.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, the problem is CHARGES of racism in the sport, as opposed to the ACTUAL RACISM in the sport. IF you were wondering.

Clearly, as in so many other places, so much depends as to whether or not there’s “actual racism” on who it is that’s doing the evaluating – someone (or a group of someones) who have NEVER experienced racism, or someone who has had multiple experiences with its various iterations and can recognize it at multiples of 300 paces blindfolded.

Somehow the adjudicators of “whether or not there was racism” are always in that former group.

That Francoise Abanda business is wild. What a waste of energy defending Bouchard, even for the racism deniers. Talk about a colossal over-hyped disappointment.

On a related note, I gotta get my USO tix. I think it’ll be another first week drive-by for me—maybe Wednesday/Thursday.

The Deadspin comments are full of Sharapova apologists. They’re really mad #DopeDorris will forever have an asterisks next to her titles. They also seem to hate when black people have agency and advocate for themselves (see LeBron).

      Yeah I saw that too.

“But but they test ALL athletes!”

      or

“Come on she has to be doping look how big she is (aka she beat Sharapova so now I’m butt hurt).”

Totally! I had responded to one of them over there about this. Basically refuting each of the guy’s reasons that she is “obviously hiding her PED use.” It’s so much bs. You know they want to say the thing (be racist) but stopped just short of it, so I had to jump in the comments. She’s taking all of this with the grace of the champion she is. Sorry to inform all her detractors, but she’s simply a badass b that you can’t wrap your mind around!

They’re never ahead. They’re usually way behind.

Fetch isn’t going to happen and neither is a competitive feud with Maria Sharapova. They must be worried that Serena’s dominance is going to lower interest in the sport but you fix that with competition not disqualification. Even less people are going to care about Women’s Tennis if you turn it into RuPaul’s Drag Race where weak players are propped up for unpredictability’s sake.

Serena is just built like a brick house. Some women put muscle on differently than others that’s just genes. Plus Serena just had a baby complicated delivery and was breastfeeding do these people know nothing.

nope.  If you’re not a size 6 white woman with a stick straight body, you are obviously the wrong body time and have to be doping.  It’s the law or something... (smh)

Serena owes no one, explainations or apologies for her fine-tuned musculature and power; the operative wording being, fine-tuned, toned, regulated by her genes and health/workout regimen.
