  Believe it or not, it’s one of NBC’s few bona fide hits.
  Never underestimate the power of James Spader being seductively snarky for an hour each week. In fact, the best thing Megan Boone could do to reduce gun violence is to have her character die tragically from being shot by an assault rifle, so that the entire show can be James Spader being seductively snarky - while carrying his character’s granddaughter with him everywhere.

  See, this is why we need an SCP Foundation, or at least an XCOM. Goddamn FBI gets out played by one crash landed xeno with minor levitation abilities? Even with walkie talkies, couldn’t one of them had hucked one of them at the kid or the spokes or something?

Yeah, those are infantry-style weapons. It’s controversial how much of law enforcement should have them. I don’t know law enforcement from inside, but it seems to me that best practice is to limit them to SWAT use. So, most law enforcement uses pistols, and in immediate emergency response, shotguns. There’s too much collateral damage inevitable from assualt rifles to make them standard issue for law enforcement.
Please don’t ask me about arming teachers. The answer is no.

This is dumb, meaningless, bandwagon jumping of the highest order. I used to watch the show. I don’t recall her ever using one, but that doesn’t mean much; I do feel comfortable saying that she hardly ever used/uses one. This is almost as bad as saying that I will join in the boycott of some product when I don’t even use it in the first place.
Aside from that, other characters on the show will still use them, from bad guys to law enforcement (tactical teams and such) to the military (ours and other nations). There are all sorts of scenes and situations in the show where people might be shown using assault rifles. Her character’s personal non-use of a specific weapon does absolutely nothing to reduce the level of gun glorification when guns, including the excluded one, are all over her show. This is especially egregious when you consider that she will still be shown using her standard FBI handgun.

Okay, she is upset about “Assault” rifles, but tv isn’t real life, she isn’t playing a high school shooter, but an FBI agent(/vigilante now) and this is pretend. TV Guns aren’t ever going anywhere, and they shouldn’t.
Also, her courageous statement doesn’t mean a whole lot when she will still murder the shit out of people with hand guns, shotguns (Red loves those), hunting rifles, knives, broken glass, and any other weapon of opportunity that presents itself.
