My cat must be a freak of nature, because she does not like getting into boxes. You have to put a treat into a box in order to get her to go in it, and she gets out as quickly as she can.

  My cats like low edge boxes (like the flats that come when you order a case of cat food). However, bigger, higher edged boxes end up getting used eventually as litter boxes. For that reason, boxes do not spend a lot of time sitting around my apartment.

The top of a box of printer paper (Of course, this is only appropriate if they are spilling out the sides when they are laying in it, like mine did for several years. It had to be duct-tape reinforced a few times.)

  When my ex was moving out, our house was a chaos of boxes upon boxes and our cats could not contain themselves. They napped in one box for 5 minutes, then on to the next one for an extended 20 minute snooze, then onto the next, sometimes solo, more often as a duo, and so on and so on.
  I think our divorce was 42% less painful because they helped us laugh through those toughest few weeks.

  I watched a couple cats for my dad while he was building a house and one of them loved laying on a box of printer paper that I had filled with other stuff, but not fully, so the top kind of bowed in a little. That is where he liked to sleep and then sit during the day looking out the window waiting for me to come home from work. I would see his head in the window and when I got close, he would disappear and be waiting at the door.

I usually check out Wonkette’s daily roundup first thing in the morning. You can tell it is going to be a really horrible day when they lead with a cute animal (many times kitten or cat vid) and close with another.
I have thought about making a joke about how, after years of this, I now have a Pavlovian response of existential dread every time I see a cute animal video, given the horrible news that usually follows, but I am afraid if I did that, they might stop showing them, which would depress me no end.
All of the kitten / cat vids are great, but lately, I am really partial to babby goats.
They hop around and generally kill anyone with a nuclear bomb of cuteness which could be weaponized at any moment.
*Also, a trick with kittens, that makes cleanup much easier, is to run warm water from the sink on their bellies. This causes them to do their bizness conveniently in the sink for much easier cleanup.
- Somebody who has had to raise many abandoned kittens from squirmy infancy.
