Ha! nice. I actually didn’t mind this version. It is different and kinda weird. Better this than someone that can’t sing. I hope people start doing all sorts of different arrangements.

I thought the rendition was positively Fergalicious.

Seeing Rosanne Barr tweet ā€œlowkeyā€ is one of those things that makes me wish the apocalypse would just hurry it up already.

Yeah, I think we’re burying the lede here. Even if somebody tweeted that for her (I have no idea if Roseanne tweets her own tweets), it put the image in my head of her saying it, and that’s equally as bad.Ā

I’m not sure how that word is supposed to be used, but I’m positive it’s not like that. At least we’ll have old people awkwardly using current slang to keep us entertained before the Rapture.

Carl Lewis at least give it an honest go. This was patent;y offensive, but I doubt there will be any outcry cause she’s whiter than Martin Mull eating a mayo and Wonderbread sandwich

I think Steph Curry’s confused blinking was the appropriate response. As WTF-led-you-to-this stylistic choices go, it was no R. Kelly having dancers foxtrotting* in the ring for the Taylor-Hopkins national anthem.

*-I am in no way certain they were doing the foxtrot, but it’s the closest dance I sort-of recognize.

I would never cast myself as any sort of Fergie defender, but while this was definitely not good, I didn’t think it was particularlyĀ memorable or noteworthy in its badness. Our national anthem is kinda dull, and watching pop stars solemnly mumble their way through it until they get to the glory note is one of my least favorite elements of major sporting events. (It’s also hilarious that the one rendition virtually everyone agrees is great — Whitney at the Super Bowl — was pre-recorded and lip-synced, and now stands as a defining piece of wartime kitsch from a then-minor war that would have major unforeseen consequences on the world for decades to come.) I wish more people would shake it up a little bit — this one didn’t come off, but whatever, at least she tried something different.

      I’d certainly rather a screwed-up live vocal than a flawed ā€˜performance’ of something pre-recorded.

You know.... this didn’t quote work. BUT, I think she’s got a torch singer vocal down. I’d like to see her come out with a jazz album, just to see what she can do with songs that are designed for this sort of thing.

It didn’t quite workĀ == it didn’t stay in a single key and lasted about twice as long as it should have.

There are two roads one can choose when one is too old for pop music: reheating staleĀ jazz standards or shitty country. Fergie could go either way right now. Don’t be surprised to see her in Daisy Dukes and a straw hat by summer.

It’s got a ā€œLinda Lavin singing the theme song for Aliceā€ kind of vibe...

Coincidentally, I just saw an episode of ā€œAliceā€ on tv, for the first time in probably thirty years. Her singing wasn’t good.

Maybe it would have worked if, like Lavin on Alice, at the end she was soaking her feet in tubs of hot water. At the very least a certain segment of the audience would have been pleased.

It sounds like something from a spoof movie. Like, in the scene she’d be crawling sensually over a piano like in Fabulous Baker Boys but instead of singing something sexy she does something wildly inappropriate.

As has been theorized, I believe she was trying to pull her version of a Marvin Gaye NBA All-Star game anthem, and she failed miserably. Which anyone will tell you was predictable. I think the problem was that she never said out loud ā€œI’m going to outdo Marvin Gaye.ā€. Had she done so, she would have immediately realized the foolhardyness of such a plan, and would have gone with a rote, paint-by-numbers, version of the anthem, which is far more within her range.
