Oliver does a great job of educating viewers about issues we don’t fully understand and lobbing in some jokes while doing it. His long, logical analysis is really some of the best on television. Sadly, the people who need to see this the most have the attention span of a gnat and get their information from President Tweet.

As a paid Russian troll, I adore these snarky barely-left-of-center corporate-approved liberal TV comedians. They have inflicted thousands of savage TAKEDOWNS on Trump which have EVISCERATED and DESTROYED him again and again and again — yet somehow he has not only survived, but thrived. These folks are, in fact, better at my job than I could ever hope to be.

Oliver’s at his best when he’s covering pressing topics that aren’t really getting the attention that they deserve—because of the circus surrounding Trump and his ilk. He’s great at making complex issues like prison reform, the border, that thing with folks living in flood plains, etc. digestible. I get why it’s tempting to make the main topic of his episode Trump and his idiocy, but it’s maybe not the best use of time. If anything, I’d say Oliver does his best roasting of Trump during the short segments at the beginning.
