  No see, if this is her, the best punishment is thus: find her, grab her, and shave her head bald, then say, “That’s what it feels like to be a slave.”
  Because then everyone she sees will see her, every time she looks in the mirror, she sees herself, and knows she had no control. She has long hair so she obviously values her hair and appearance on some level, and is a vain person, for whatever that’s worth. Shaving her head would be the best thing you could do to this woman, it would scar her.

Why do we need to teach black kids what it’s like to be a slave? How does that help them? If we’re trying to teach a valuable lesson so kids grow up and don’t repeat history, we should be trying to reach white kids what it feels like to be a slave (but it’s never okay to be literally stepping on kids as the teacher).

That does it. K-12 teachers need a region-by-region mandatory retreat held to discuss best practices for teaching about America’s racist history in age-appropriate ways that do not fuck with the kids outside of educating them. Are there no great African American Studies professors/researchers who can work with primary and secondary education professors to talk curriculum reform? Is there some sort of beef between the two fields where they can’t have conversations/collaborations? Not going to get into what went through this lady’s head when she stepped on the kid’s back or before that, but is there no training on how to teach slavery or the dark sides of immigration or the import and exploitation of Chinese men?
