It’s annoying, you don’t want to be there, but it’s part of the job and it won’t take that long.

Sheeeeeeeeeet that Orange Ogre’s speech was an hour and half. I’m glad I wasn’t actually there as the vapors from the bullshit fumes would have killed any common sense I have left.

I didn’t need a dictionary for that speech, cause it was so basic. Miller needs to up his game if he’s going to write this sort of stuff. Nothing about it was imaginative or original. In fact you might be right about the Pat Buchanan bobblehead bit as he was Nixon’s speechwriter. In fact parts of Trump “speech” was in the vein of the Southern Strategy employed during the 1964 and ‘72 election.

And all that “USA” chanting (and his sly nod to the great American flag) just proved to me that Congress is filled with many white men, who without external approval, quite emotionally immature.

That “USA” chant creeps me the hell out...especially hearing it in the House. It sent a chill down my spine, and not one of national pride.

That’s a hour an hour of my life I’ll never get back, and I only heard bits and pieces. Even knowing it was happening was mentally exhausting. I can’t imagine having to do all that sitting and standing and shit while Trump spoke.

Me: We’re not watching the State of the Union, are we?

    Fiancee: Fuck no!

Me: Cool. I’m gonna go wash dishes.

*Walks into kitchen where roommate is on the phone*

White roommate: Okay mom, I have to go listen to the propaganda! *laughs unironically*

    Me: *seethes with undying rage*

*Tries to watch TV with fiancee but can’t focus because white roommate has SOTU on full blast in the other room and is literally screaming in disagreement with Donald Trump*

I need to fucking move. The ONE NIGHT when my roommate chooses not to smoke weed and shut the fuck up...

      I need to fucking move.

      Yep.

One of the best parts of my divorce is not having to weather my stepfather-in-law’s commandeering of the TV to watch MSNBC on full blast, usually while having FOX (simultaneously) on his laptop.

      Every. Time.

Toward the end, after a couple of hours, I’d say “enough of this shit” and turn on a video game.

At first I tried to drown it out by wearing my headphones, but that wasn’t exactly fair to my fiancee, so we watched TV and talked, but I could still hear him.

Trump supporter: “Well, yeah, hes kind of an asshole. But, ya know what? Sometimes it takes being an asshole to get things done.”

Person with a brain: “Uh no, youre a fucking idiot. And people who advocate being an asshole “sometimes” are assholes all the time.”

This. It is so difficult for some folks to understand this concept. This fool is literally governing to about 25 million assholes who seem to be stuck in a 1950s hyperloop.

I would have preferred if Democrats attending the State of the Union had really brought the ruckus, collectively stood in formation and walked out when Trump mentioned immigration, or if they’d shouted the names of Heather Heyer, Ricky John or Richard Collins III, victims of white nationalist violenceevery time Trump said MS-13. Hell, they could have just screamed, “You lie!” at every other sentence. But I knew better ... Democrats aren’t about that life.

No they really aren’t. Midterms shouldn’t be just about taking back Congress from the GOP, it should be about cleaning house, bringing in a new crew and sending a notice to everyone, enough of Politics As Usual

(I know this has nothing to do with the topic, I just like the track)

and to the CBC members who busted out the kente cloth, you best believe that Black America was all thinking the same thing about your “noble” stance...

We all hyped for Black Panther, too, son! (In other words, that shit was weak. Do better)

With good candidates who actually want to do more than be a thorn in Trump’s side - that’d be my caveat.

I didn’t watch because I can’t stand his fucking voice or his fucking face. I can’t stand the smug emanating off of the Republican members of congress or the thinly disguised hatred they have for us. I could barely tolerate hearing it on the news this morning and then they reported that polls indicated that 80% of people who watched thought the speech was positive. What. The. Fuck. I had to switch the radio to some classical to soothe my nerves.

As a professional aside, I don’t think anyone should skip out on the State of the Union, no matter how much you dislike the president.

I get yelled at when I say that.

I didn’t yell at you yesterday, but I still don’t see what they accomplished by sitting there looking all sour-faced every time he told a lie and clapped for himself.

What did you expect them to do, speak out against him? Correct his lies? Pull a Joe Wilson circa 2009 and yell out, “You lie!” Sorry but these are democrats we’re talking about. There are jellyfish with stronger backbones than them.

I am so disgusted and furious with this country and our leadership in a way I have never been before.

This has been me every day since he was elected. Becoming an expatriate looks better and better by the day.

And also I suspect he brought out Nisa Mickens’ family to try to divide black and brown. Motherfucker none of us are here for that! My Latin ass ain’t having it. Eat a fucking dick you orange pile of shit. I’m so full of rage. And my white boss was of course praising his speech. I can’t with these fucking people. I need a new job and a passport.

Go for it, sometimes you have to vote with your feet. I moved to Germany 5 years ago for work initially, and then stayed for love and new home thereafter. I can get permanent residency this year (and the gov is required by law to give it to me since I’ve paid into their retirement system for 5 years - simple logic - I have to be allowed to be here to collect the payments later because taking a payment is mandatory after 5 years of contributing - a policy that actually makes sense). The moment the orange-utan got pushed on the country, i said I was out. I was already sold on the idea but didn’t have my heart set on it by that point. Until the id of old Murica happened. Can’t see myself ever moving back until there are major changes on so many levels I don’t even know where to start. I’m white btw.

I haven’t watched a SOTU live in years. It’s usually so much political theater, and it’s like if POTUS burped, they’d give it a 10 minute standing ovation. I’ve stuck to reading the transcripts for years, because I can get through the speech much more quickly, and frequently there’s analysis along with it that can be alternately entertaining or illuminating. (And the responses are usually so insane, I skip them, though I am interested to see Maxine Water’s this evening.)

I can’t even bring myself to read this SOTU, though, knowing it was penned by Steven Miller. The man is barely sentient meconium, possessing all the subtlety that implies. So I figure I’ll save the speech for a point in time when I need an emetic because I accidentally swallowed something toxic.

As for your realization...it took you this long? My first thought once the outcome was certain was, “Fuck You, American Electorate...this wasn’t a Fucking BuzzFeed Quiz. This has serious consequences, and if you think Trump will suddenly become Presidential, you deserve the oncoming shit-show. Unfortunately, most everyone else won’t.”

All I can do is support the NDRC and the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact - call/write your State Representatives and Senators often! - so we can get some less gerrymandered districts and minimize the impact of the way-too-outdated Electoral College.

nobody, not the Democrats, not the Republicans, and not the 38 percent of Americans who still believe in this man will take responsibility when we hit rock bottom.

    The American Way(TM)!

Seriously, though, if this new BH/Amazon/JPMorgan independent health system takes off, get ready for fiefdoms.

I didn’t watch “the Uniom” because I can’t afford the long-term psychiatric care that I would have needed.
