The lesson is dont steal cars.

And if you do then DO NOT park the stolen car in front of the rightful owners house.

Sounds like this kid died of stupidity.

Yes, do not steal cars. The car was stolen near a convenience store, and then the kid parked it near the owner’s home. I wonder if it was just a strange coincidence for the kid to park it there.

Just you make sure you “dont” die of stupidity (being the wrong color, gender, etc.) It can happen to you, too.

Friendly Neighborhood Reminder to check the posting history of these greyburners before responding.

Shooting articles are like a dog whistle to them.

...but, ‘he reached for something’ which is apparently a perfectly fine excuse for murdering children. If this was a white boy that a black man shot in the exact scenario, people would be calling for this asshole’s head. You know, with logic ie. “he was reaching for the gear shit to bolt” or “he was reaching for the door handle to bolt”.

And pass on a free chance to murder someone? Not in America.

After reading both your post and the referenced article, it seems to me that charge of “unlawful use of a weapon” was in order.

But we are talking about S.C. They can’t get shit right on their own.

Its all sad. A 15 year old dead. A 15 year old that was apparently involved in some form of crime. An adult that has to deal with, and accept, the fact that he killed someone, even if it is justified. A family that lost a family member. I feel sympathy for both the shooter and the family.

      even if it is justified.

Nope - we strongly disagree. The shooter grabbed his gun and went looking for a fight.

First, I wasn’t saying that I knew for certain that the shooting was justified. It’s why I typed “even if”. The main reason is because it comes down to what can be proven in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt and all they have to go on is pretty much the shooter’s statements. Second, you’re more than welcome to disagree. Its one of the foundations of Freedom. Third, unless you’re privy to information that isn’t provided in the article, we don’t know that the shooter “grabbed his gun and went looking for a fight.” What we do know is that the shooter was armed and he did go out there. I carry, on a regular basis. But I don’t do it because I’m looking for a fight. I do it because I believe in self-defense. Would I shoot someone over a car? Not unless there was an extenuating circumstance that made me worry about my safety or someone else’s. Would I shoot someone if I believed they were reaching for a weapon? Absolutely.

Here’s how I look at criminals’ mentalities. IF I was the type of person that would steal from someone else, I would do whatever I had to do to not go to jail. Which means, if I were caught, even if I was “only” stealing a couple of dollars, I’d kill you to keep from getting caught. So I have to assume that if someone is stealing from me or breaking into my home, they think the same way. That forces me to treat them as if my life, and my family’s lives, depends on it. You pretty much have to assume the worse case scenario. If you can stop, detain, or scare off, great. But ultimately, the criminal made the choice that put them in that position. And you can’t count on the criminal to be a “good person” who “made a misguided choice.” They’ve already proven they’re untrustworthy just by stealing or whatever.

Now, as for sympathy for the shooter. Killing someone weighs on most people. It doesn’t matter if it’s something that was legally justified or not. For his sake, I hope that he made the choice he genuinely felt he had to make at the time. Because if he didn’t. If he did go off looking to shoot someone, it’ll only be worse for him. As it stands, he’s probably going to get sued by the family no matter what. The only reason that people aren’t more outraged is because the shooter probably isn’t white, or else they’d have played that up in the news.

“reasonably fear an imminent threat of injury”

To me this is so overly broad as to be absurd. If you’re sitting around minding your own business and confronted by something potentially hostile then I appreciate your right to defend yourself even with lethal force. But if you go out and approach someone or something, basically choosing to leave the safety you have at the time, then to me that is an automatic default that you did NOT reasonably fear anything. At that point this fear bullshit needs to be thrown out and at a minimum you deal with a manslaughter charge.

But look at the picture of that “thug”. He’s obviously got two guns in his hands in that pic alone!

Seriously though, I mean, definitely don’t steal cars because this is a very real outcome, but it’s a car. This is what insurance is for. If I’m using my gun on a person, it’s because they are an immediate threat on my life or the lives of my family. Notice my property isn’t listed in that. The shooter should have kept his distance and called the cops. I don’t have a problem with him having a gun, I have a problem with him using it in this situation.

Seems simple, someone from Derrick Grant’s family should kill Quadarrel Lamont Morton or one of his family members.
