You can’t really go wrong with a montage of Jessica drinking, being surly, and roughing people up, accompanied by a Heart song. Not sure what this season in all about, but I’m in.

Likely it’s about her investigating the company that owned that goo that gave her super powers. IIRC it was labeled “IGH” which could possibly mean “Inhuman Growth Hormone” which would basically just be Mutant Growth Hormone which is a drug made from the DNA of mutants and mutates that temporarily gives normal humans super powers.

Given how siloed Marvel TV is I would be slightly amazed if they call it Inhuman Growth Hormone.  But yeah, the safe bet all along is that season 2 will be about the accident that gave Jess her powers.

Season 1 of Jessica Jones had its problems, and I liked The Punisher more than I expected, but I think Jessica Jones is the best of the Netflix Marvel characters, and I’m pumped for season 2.

I’d like a Jessica/Punisher crossover. She and Frank Castle would have no time for bullshit.

Watching season 1 I often found myself thinking Jessica was a great character that deserved a better show. Fingers crossed for season 2.

I’d like to see 8 or 9 episode seasons for all the Marvel shows. I enjoy them (skipped Iron Fist though), but they tend to run out of gas by being several episodes too long.

It’s odd how many streaming programs seem to constrain themselves to the rules of broadcast TV.

It’s not that odd, really. We still use a manilla folder icon on computers to represent file folders. Most people writing and running TV learn traditional TV narrative.

Jess and this show have become important to me in ways I didn’t think a show really could be. When it came up I was a little excited, and then I stayed up watching and occasionally crying until 4 in the morning. I acknowledge its flaws (the lesbian triangle is excessively featured, though Carrie-Anne Moss’ character needed a good setup and I say the payoff was worth it; Nuke is overused and randomly characterized; the whole thing is stretched out [but that’s a flaw that’s affected all of these shows, so I give AKA JJ a pass]; Robyn; Robyn; dear god, Robyn) but I am entirely incapable of caring about them.

I love this show. I’m glad it exists.

That’s the thing about this show, for all the flaws it, it did exactly what myth is meant to do - it gave me a new vocabulary in my head for some shit that was already there. Watching it the second time, nothing about Hogarth or Simpson or the slow plot bothered me at all because every scene is about building those themes.

      I mean, except Robyn.

I know several women who WORSHIP this show, and they can’t really explain why they love it so much. I watch them watch it, and their faces just glow. It’s pretty amazing.

I’m guessing they’re not gonna go down the route of Jess having had a crush on Peter in HS.

That page is delightful. Bendis at his most Bendis-y...but with characters who the style fits.

Maybe Spider-Man has been swinging around the city randomly yelling, “with great power comes great responsibility!”

That seems entirely in-character for the MCU Spider-man.

Let’s hope that Robyn just died offscreen in-between Seasons 1 and 2 because she was by far the worst character in the MCU. She both physically, emotionally, and possibly sexually abused her brother, needlessly put 5 people including herself in danger, is partially responsible for Hope’s suicide, and told Malcom to kill himself. But for some reason the show tried to make us feel sorry for her when she has done nothing but be a terrible person. I honestly think that only reasons they didn’t have Killgrave kill her instead of her brother is because none of the audience would care and they needed something to railroad the plot so that Jessica’s only option was to kill Killgrave.

Also changing Killgrave’s powers from pheromones in the comics to a virus was stupid. And how come nobody thought to drown out Killgrave’s voice with loud music? Hell, how come Patsy was literally the only person who thought of wearing noise-canceling headphones around him?

So yes to Robin. Holy fucking shit I’ve never hated a character as much as her.

Let’s not mince words, the supporting cast for this show was terrible. They should keep Patsy and toss everyone else (and I’m including Simpson in this, who they seemed to be setting up as the big bad for S2).

I’m not sure that “great power” joke makes sense in a universe where Spider-Man is real, rather than a popular fictional character.

I was wondering the same. I’m sure it’s just an easter egg so I shouldn’t read too much into it, but it’s weird she would have heard that phrase enough to be preemptively annoyed by it, in a universe where nobody has seen the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies.

My working theory is that within the MCU, the “great power” line could have been something popularized by the 1940s Captain America propaganda, so she would have heard it a bunch in school.

Well they already kind of dropped the ball when Skye used a variant of the line in the pilot for AOS (where basically the second half was missing) prior to them getting the rights back for Spiderman. At this point I try to retcon this by saying her and Uncle Ben read the same book or fortune cookie thing with the phrase (and maybe Jessica did the same at some point).

I love love love Krysten Ritter as Jessica. Rumor is that Alexandria Daddario also auditioned and was being considered for the role (which I would’ve loved because I cannot stop staring at her once I start), but Krysten kills it. She’s perfect.

That would have been a solid choice too (though whether she would have had as effective a snarky edge I’m not sure).

Also here’s this totally necessary picture...for science.
