All I needed to know about what kind of respect people have for him is when David Hyde Pierce insisted to go uncredited as Abe Sapien’s voice in the first Hellboy, because he felt it would detract from Jones’ performance.

One of my favorite stories about Doug. Also, when in the vocal booth, David said “I am trying to sound more like Doug” since he did the lines during filming anyway.

Fair enough, but it probably says more about David Hyde Pierce than anything.

That much pain and torture is worthy of an Oscar, or at least that’s what The Revenant’s wins taught me (and every other method acting role).

“the dancing double put on the suit, sweated a lot, did one take, vomited, and passed out”

This happens every time I dance.

Maybe you should go lighter on the prosthetics.

One of my favorite photos I’ve been in is from a comic convention in 2013, at which I met Doug Jones. He was immensely warm and friendly and gracious, and when we stood side by side for a photo he spontaneously asked for permission to pinch my cheeks in it.

With nothing more than a “You bet” from me, we leapt into an impromptu bit where he’s giggling with delight while pinching me, and I’m recoiling in mock-terror, looking at him like he’s a crazy person. To this day I cannot look at that photo without laughing like I’m seeing it for the first time.

Doug Jones is amazing and deserves that honorary Oscar they are eventually going to give to Andy Serkis.

FYI this same interview was on The New York Times two weeks ago. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/23/movies/the-shape-of-water-meet-guillermo-del-toro-doug-jones.html?_r=0

Can’t someone write a screenplay where Doug Jones in amazing prosthetics fights an Andy Serkis mo-cap character? They’re both the absolute best at what they do.

The io9 article at the end is broken, it accidentally links to Vanity Fair instead of io9.
