I remember when I was watching Fantastic Beasts in the theater and during the big Johnny Depp reveal, the entire audience let out a audible groan. It was interesting how excited people would have been ten or even five years ago but, now, a sizable chunk of the audience is just so over Johnny Depp.

I don’t think it’s just the abuse allegations, I think it has been years of performances that were either lazy or hammy or some combination of the two.

i was part of that groan.

it’d been a summer of johnny depp cameos and i literally just finished thinking how much i was enjoying this movie and was glad he wasnt shitting all over it by having a cameo in it - and then bam.

J.K. Rowling is also fine with alleged abuser Johnny Depp being in Fantastic Beasts 2 due process

    FTFY.

I wasn’t aware being cast in a movie required trial proceedings.

“Due process” is a deflection thrown out by misogynists and their apologists. It doesn’t apply to casting decisions. Filmmakers can cast whomever they like in a movie, and an actor has no right to due process in that choice.

“she’s ‘genuinely happy’ to have Depp in the movie.”

That would make her the first person in probably a decade to say that.

I’m not entirely sure Tim Burton is still in the honeymoon phase of having Depp in his movies anymore.

Well, we are just 2 years removed from the last Tim Burton’s Alice, with Depp in it!

Yet another mention of Depp’s shitty behavior from the website that, as evidenced by the article from a couple days back, never mentions the allegations of abuse levied against golden boy Bill Murray. What, does Murray get one of those patented Lena Dunham Passes? Why is his ex-wife less credible than everyone else?

I think it’ll cycle around to him, particularly if he has to go out and do press for a lead role (not some small appearance in a Wes Anderson flick). He’s due, and I think we’re ready to kill every single idol we’ve ever had because truly none of it matters to us now.

The one that really got me was how Josh Brolin skated past, despite being the villain in two ultramassive blockbusters this last summer. Never doubt Disney’s unstoppable power - if they want Mike Cernovich to be in the next Star Wars movie, they will make it happen and no piddling entertainment website will make a peep about it. What, you wanna lose access to 90% of all press junkets for the next five decades?

It’s a lot of mental gymnastics to go from his admission of guilt to he’s a decent guy, but, sadly, this is not the first time I’ve seen that happen.

Except for the fact he’s never made an admission of guilt.

Lord, it’s Jesse Lacey all over again. What do you call their joint statement? He admits she didn’t make up claims and that their relationship was violent. No, he doesn’t say “I hit my ex-wife,” but it’s between the lines.

After the flack Yates (deservedly) got for his thoughts on the matter, you knew she’d have to come out and say something. This is, to put it mildly, disappointing as hell.

JK Rowling has also retweeted articles by TERF’s so she has major issues with social justice causes writ large IMO.

Rowling’s been displaying her not-so-egalitarian attitude for awhile now. She’s basically a white, upper class, somewhat educated yet biased Brit who is out of her depth when she steps outside the narrow confines of her world. Her lazy, bigoted and insulting history of magic in the U.S. really showcased that and she’s completely non-apologetic about it. It’s such a study in arrogance and hubris.

I spent a wonderful Christmas vacation once in the Swiss alpine resort of Grindelwald, so this film sounded intriguing at first...but now it appears it has nothing to do with skiing or beautiful mountain vistas, so I’m out. This is like calling a movie “The Passion of Venice”, about a guy called Joe Venice.

maybe the controversy will spice up the movies after the first one was so incredibly boring. will he self-incriminate? will we be able to tell from his expressions if he was lying or is a bad person?
