Now you can call him “Ray” or you can call him “The Ray” or you can call him “El Rey”...

Of course, if he were African American, he would be “The Black Ray”. Out of costume, his friends would call him “Black Ray”.

If the CW wanted to go ahead and spin off a new channel and just play nothing but comic book shows, so Vixen and Freedom Fighters could have their own real shows, I’d be fine with that. Or, at this point, spin off all the non-comic book shows into their own channel.

The CW really needs to do more crossovers with their non-superhero shows. Liv and Peyton from iZombie investigating a case in Riverdale & trying to mentor Betty and Veronica would be awesome.

So The Ray’s coming-out storyline seems more or less beat-for-beat like Alex’s amazing coming-out storyline last season on Supergirl, with her gradually coming out to first herself, her crush, and then her family and friends, and all the attendant anxieties.

I think it is cool that they are covering these issues from the perspective of a male gay superhero though, since TV has been particularly shy about gay men actually BEING gay.

Also Russell Tovey is really good. I really liked him on the UK Being Human, and he and Wentworth Miller had electric chemistry in Crisis on Earth X.

Miller could have chemistry with an inanimate carbon rod and to prove it please look at my fanart.

If you are looking for more more shows where Tovey is macking on dudes, check out HBO’s Looking - it’s obviously created as a counter-point to Girls, but it’s like way less pretentious, the characters far less obnoxious and 200% just better. He’s also been in Sherlock, Banished and Quantico, but he makes out with far less dudes in those.

I’m disappointed that there’s no Uncle Sam in this, and that they chose to go for original DC characters like Red Tornado and Citizen Cold to fill out the team, rather than using old Quality Comics characters. That would have been cool.

EDIT: I’m actually seeing in some places that Uncle Sam IS in this series. If so, I’m stunned that this writer never mentioned that.

Oliver Sava cares more about the political or social agenda a show is trying to present than the actual plot or characters in it.

I enjoyed it, but the fact that it’s only 30 minutes means it’s over before the plot can kick into high gear. Have they already said if they’re doing a second season?

It’s an interesting companion piece to the Iceman comic currently out, where Bobby is trying to get his conservative parents to accept him being gay.

They couldn’t accept him being a mutant, so good luck with that Bobby!

I just finished watching it. While the shorter episodes make it easy to watch in one sitting, its shortness also means that a lot of plot points get lost. I hate that it ended on a cliffhanger. I haven’t heard anything about there being a second season. A lot of the characters who were rumored to appear in it weren’t on this season. Melissa Benoist’s voice time was limited that I’m surprised they didn’t use a regular voice actor for the character.

Just watched all 6 episodes. Thought it was pretty solid but didn’t love the ending.

So... ah... lotta spoilers in this review, huh?

Also I have to laugh at Red Tornado being in the header image since we all now know that Barry and Ray himself are just going to end up killing him.
