      Maybe they figure the story nobody has seen already would make a more satisfying movie going experience. That or the rights were slightly cheaper. One of those two.

      Maybe it’s because Detective Pikachu is the first time the character has had a voice, a personality, and is the star of his own story. Japan likes their cartoon mascots without any of those things (see: Hello Kitty), which has probably stumped legions of Hollywood execs trying to adapt them for the American animated movie market.

      I get that they’re probably expecting most of the money to come from Japanese audiences, but I say if they’re going to adapt a Pokemon-based property few people are aware of they should go for the stage musical “Pokemon Live!”
