You have a Martian Manhunter, Saturn Girl, Mon-El, Guardian (shut up James Olson haters) Batwoman (Alex would make a great Batwoman) and no one shows up to help Kara against Reign? Not even Superman? You just know that fight had to be on every news channel in the world!

Man, Kara got her ass WHOOPED! That was a Doomsday level beat down...whoo. I was hoping Clark was going to swoop in and catch Kara before she fell but nope!

    Damn. Damn. Damn.

The only bit of hope we have that Kara is going to come out on top is Imra almost busting out in a smile and telling Mon-El that Kara was going to be alright, as if she was witness to a historical event for the ages so there’s that (and that damn Legion Ring tease...ugh)

As for the rest of the episode, James and Lena finally doing the damn thing, can’t wait for Lex to find out about that! Hank getting his Hall & Oates on, Martian Dad getting his cocoa on, Imra getting her eat on (We need a food eating showdown between her and Zara from Legends, man, the Arrowverse women sure can eat!), it was okay

    But that fight, though!

    Whoo!

    Thoughts and Prayers, Kara...damn

My read is that, much like Buffy Summers before her, Kara will realize that she’s going to need to rely on the human/family side of herself to pull this off, thus building up to her friends backing her up.

That said, the bigger these fights get the harder it is that nobody’s willing to help. If I was as scared as Alex about this fight you bet your ass I’d hit the Earth-1 clicker and get Barry to rally some folks over.

I most fault Mon-El for not coming to Kara’s aid during her beatdown from Reign (he was at the DOE and knew what was up!).

Man did the Reign-Supergirl punches during their fight all seem heavy. It was exhausting and increasingly disturbing.

“I’ve had a rough year, but I know that I never could have gotten through it without the two of you.”

Jesus, slow down, Kara. Haven’t you known Sam for like, two weeks?

The show moves more or less in real time (except when it doesn’t), so she’s known Sam for a couple of months.

“Sam, I’ve only know you for like a week but it feels like we’ve been friends for years.”

It does feels like they skipped several steps and went from Kara and Sam meeting to being instant friends.

That was a cool look for Reign - though I can’t help thinking about what Cat Grant would say if she saw the giant S burned into the roof of her building.

I like Mon-El more than most, but if all he’s going to bring to this show is CW-mandated romantic angst, I’d just as soon do away with the character.

Yeah Mon-El when he’s not being forced to do the angsty romance stuff is usually fine. I didn’t mind him and Kara together whenever they weren’t have major dram issues.

At least they seem to be going with the notion that Kara and Mon-El’s moment passed and it’s not coming back.  Or at least I hope that’s what they’re going for.

It’s really hard, I mean really really hard to pull off the kind of fight scene a battle between two Kryptonians calls for, especially on a TV budget. But they did a god enough job, and seeing Kara get wrecked like that definitely does the job of selling Reign’s credentials. I mean heck, Overgirl didn’t rough her up that much, or Superman.

Edge trying to capitalize on Reign’s graffiti rampage by attempting to kill Lena felt tacked on, and I thought for sure Mon-El would play a larger part in the A Plot, either by catching Kara at the tail end of the fight, or having the vital knowledge on what the Reign symbol meant because Daxam didn’t burn the foundational texts like the Kryptonians did.

Having said all that though, really, can we just have the series be nothing but that Christmas party?

Winn discussing Star Wars movies with the Martians was delightful.

Had to rewind after the mention of “Life Day” because of the gaffaws that went on in my house.

And this is chapter 29 in “Why my wife hates watching superhero shows with my son and me.”

I like the theory that she’ll play a role in turning Reign back into Samantha at the end of the season.

(I like less the theory that Alex will adopt her.)

I gotta say Reign looks a lot better on screen and in the dark then she did in those promotional stills they realized of her costume a while back. Also I like that they made her look different enough that you can’t immediately tell that it’s Sam under the mask.

So they going to wake up everyone else in those space ship pods or just leave them down there or what? And no mention of Kara and Alex’s adventures in Naziland last week?

It’s nine episodes I guess we can add Winn’s alien girlfriend to the ever growing lists of people who’ve just disappeared from National City without a trace.

What Imra and Mon-El haven’t revealed is that in the future, J’onn moves to Tamaran and starts his own cover band: X’hal and Oates.

    Yo, wait, hold up.

What about the Legion flight ring in the Fortress of Solitude?!

I want my flight ring! Bouncing Boy! Ferro Lad! Matter-Eater Lad! Giant spaceship headquarters!

What if this is not THE Legion but L.E.G.I.O.N.?

I like the whole Reign=primordial pre-Rao Kryptonian Lilith thing. It adds a mythic dimension to everything. Not just your usual superheroine stuff. They are dealing with it so much better than the movies did. I’m almost waiting for Wally & Buzz to show up.

Chad Lowe’s character has totally converted me to his Supergirl-worshipping religion.

If you have a minute, I’d like to talk to you about our lord & savior, Kara Zor-El.

Lowe really took what could’ve been a generic cult leader character and imbued him with a vulnerability that makes me empathize with his beliefs. He's one of the best antagonists in the whole series imo

This show is getting better but boy do I have some issues with the episode...

    1. You have Imra freaking Ardeen aka Saturn Girl but you don’t deploy her when Kara is getting her butt kicked?

    2. You have Mon-El aka Mon-El (WHY!?!?!?!!) one of the Legion’s Big 3 but HE isn’t deployed when Kara is getting her butt kicked.

    3. YOU HAVE JIMMY FREAKING OLSON aka SUPERMAN’S PAL STANDING THERE watching Kara get her butt kicked but he doesn’t start hitting the panic button on that signal watch of his when Kara is free falling after being destroyed by Reign!?

    4. You have two Martians at your disposal too. Even if they don’t want to mix it up physically, what about psychically?

Hopefully this prompts Mon-El to haul the rest of the Legion out of cold storage. No question Brainiac 5 could figure out a plan to defeat Reign. Or just let Garth and Rokk open up a bit on her while Imra goes plumbing the depths of her mind.

I remarked to my GF that, in the comics, Imra’s a gifted telepath... but that I don’t know how they’re playing it here. And if she is one what it means that they’re keeping it hidden (since Saturn Girl is a founding member of the LSH, they’re not going to bone it up and make her bad)... so a lot of opportunities here...
