The NPR station here re-jiggered its Saturday schedule a month or two ago and stopped playing PHC/Town Hall. I’m not a big fan or anything, but that was still a shock: an NPR station NOT playing Prairie Home Companion?! How is that possible?

Anyway, for those who listen regularly, is the show more music-oriented with Thile than it was with Keillor? That’s been my impression. Seems like every time I would catch a bit of the show it would be a musical performance.

Now don’t get me wrong, I love me some Aoife O’Donovan and Sarah Jarosz.

Yes. He likes to talk casual music theory with the guests sometimes which typically catches them off-guard. There’s a lot of cover songs and such now.

Yeah, I like it though. They do some fun stuff with music that makes it more engaging.

Regardless of what Keillor did, this, renaming the program, is fucking stupid. Thought damnatio memoriae went out with the Romans.

Decided not to read the article before commenting? Keillor owns the name. Continuing to use it would mean continuing to pay Keillor, which they don’t want to do.

I can’t escape the feeling that Garrison Keillor is the one we got wrong in this whole wonderful ongoing purge. His story sounds true to me, and he was quick to jump up and tell it. He didn’t hide or mince words or run away or act guilty. No other women have come forward, and I’d be stunned if they did. I think the poor guy got destroyed by an opportunistic sociopath who saw the chance to snake a cash settlement out of MPR and took it.

I felt the opposite, like there’s probably more that couldn’t be substantiated and so they’re not making it public. There had to be something more than just “my hand slipped” to can a 4 decade veteran and public broadcasting legend.

Not to mention that whole ‘independent investigation’ thing.

Keillor pretty much built the popularity of MPR. I can’t see them seeing this as a chance to get rid of him. It hurts them as much as it hurts him.

I didn’t think it was possible, but I actually find Chris Thile more insufferably smarmy than Keillor. I had no idea it could actually get more white than it already was. Burn it all down.

Ya know, the “Burn it all down” meme isn’t supposed to be a catchall for anything you personally don’t care for... it’s supposed to reference how deeply rooted the corruption of an industry is at the moment.

      I didn’t know that was a meme, actually. I still don’t care.

Regardless of whatever inappropriate thing he did, Keillor’s statement is pretty chill. I kinda respect “I’m too old to give a fuck, bye” in a weird way.

I can’t say I’m a big fan of the show. It’s probably the most boring thing I ever heard. The fact that MPR let him go after investigating makes me think there was more than just an accidental touching.

Also,I think there might be a typo: it’s legal “counsel” not “council.” (Not trying to be a dick. It doesn’t really matter either way, just thought it might be helpful).

Good name, if somewhat bland in comparison.

Also, I always thought that the music was supposed to sound odd. That was just part of the charm, which I say sincerely as even though I didn’t care for the music, something about the environment made it comforting.

But yes, Thile is a talented musician, which is a good thing.

Ah yes, Pond Town Hall, where the fellows are athletic, the ladies are physically attractive, and the progeny are scholastically superior.
