I’d pick Jong Un or Kaepernick or maybe both just to drive Trump nuts.

I hope it’s Kaepernick. It’d piss 45 off bigly. My phone wants to autocorrect “bigly” to “bigot” and I nearly allowed it.

Jeff Bezos would also make him batty since he’s “the richest man in the world...”

Time always insists that the Person of the Year isn’t necessarily intended to be an honor, but it almost always bows to politics to prevent someone truly infamous from being named. See, for instance, 2001, in which it selected Rudy Giuliani instead of Osama bin Laden.

It’s also prone to selecting nonspecific groups of people involved in a big story to avoid naming the infamous figure at its center. I suspect “the #MeToo Movement” will be this year’s selection, but if Time really had the courage of its “not necessarily an honor” convictions, the POTY would be Harvey Weinstein. (Which would incidentally be a nice fuck-you to last year’s POS honoree.)

Edited to add: Indeed, I think the fact that the shortlist includes #MeToo instead of Weinstein is evidence that #MeToo is probably going to be the selection, since Time is likely less prone to playing equivocal politics with the figures that will only be the runners-up.

As sad and horrifying as it is, I’d say the far-right is the Person of the Year. 2017 was the year we realized how bad institutionalized sexual abuse has been, but it’s also the year that real Nazis became legitimized.

Although if Time wants to avoid giving them the attention by picking another person or group, that’s fine with me.

They should pick Putin just to see how Trump would react.

I know it won’t be him, but if Bob Mueller ended up on that cover I would laugh until I cried (for various reasons).

Is it down to those three? Because I think they should throw “women who have stood up to and accused the people who have sexually harrassed/assaulted/abused them.”

Plus it would be a real good way for Time’s editors to show the chicks they care and maybe get laid.

THE DREAMERS NEED TO WIN. Wondering whom we need to get in touch with in order for that to happen - especially before the Koch Brothers take a majority & controlling interest in time, which is what I’ve read in more than one publication is what they’re trying to do.

If I had to pick between Kim Jong Un and Donald Trump, I’d go the former. For a pissant country who’s only leverage it has against other superpowers is nuclear weapons, it’s really trolling the Dotard in Chief.

But yeah, I’d pick Kaepernick or the Dreamers. (Mostly the dreamers.)

Colin Kaepernick would be awesome, so of course it’s not going to happen.

“Little Rocket Man” would be the, er, sensible choice.

(Didn’t Time say when Agent Orange claimed to be in the running that they never nominated the same person twice? Or memory plays tricks?)

When I saw the headline, I immediately wanted to post “Even if he starts World War 3 ...”, but I see the article already covers that.
