I’d feel a lot better if I knew he was going to lose that license to practice law for good.

I’ve floated an argument or two about racism - and sexism – being literal clear and present dangers to the national interest ...

Yes. He obviously has no respect for the law. Don’t people like him love to state things like (read in my best Most Condescending, Darkest Part of Someone’s Soul Voice): “You know who has no respect for the law? - Criminals. Harharharhar.” - Exactly, Mr. Abelove. Now go and sit with the rest of them.

In New York state, a 2015 executive order by Governor Andrew Cuomo requires AG Schneiderman to investigate and criminally prosecute any case in which a police officer kills an unarmed civilian.

While he’s generally a trash-ass opportunist who seems to love power more than he loves public service, I am glad Cuomo made this executive order. And it’s yet another example if you need one of why any Democrat is better than any Republican, these days. My states current GOP governor is considered one of the most “moderate” ones...and he’s still a conservative Republican.

BTW, Schneiderman is a boss, and I’m jealous New York gets him as their AG. Dems need to focus not just on getting back governor’s offices, but AG offices in those states where they are elected.

Cuomo isn’t thaaaaaat bad. Its NYS, whoever we got in there was going to be a bit corrupt. Most people seem to hate him for his gun control.

Lots of people up my way (Oswego county) use gun control as a jumping-off point to hate him for everything. Did you know that Cuomo put the constitutional convention on the ballot last month so that he could strip pensions from all the state employees? *rolls eyes*

Abelove is charged with two misdemeanor counts of official misconduct and one count of perjury, which is a Class D felony. If found guilty, he faces a possible sentence of seven years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.

I kind of think when governmental officials subvert justice they should be responsible for the sentence that would have been appropriate to the person they protected, (or in the case of false conviction, harmed). DAs talk about disincentives for drugs and every other petty crime, how about this?

Most felony convictions will carry automatic disbarment. Even misdemeanors, if connected to a unethical practice of law, potentially carries the possibility of suspension or disbarment of a legal license from the State bar.

If the felony sticks, the dude’s legal career is over.

    Thank you.

And the answer is: removal from office.

This miscreant is one more example of the flippant disregard for the rule of law exercised by those elected to uphold the system of justice puported in our American Constitution.

I guess I’m a little confused about how this works. If the state attorney general has effectively been put in charge of investigating officer-involved killings of unarmed civilians, then why was the local DA even involved in the case in the first place?

Because the local DA intentionally ignored the executive order that put the AG in charge, in order to protect the cop.

Well, I guess that explains why the district attorney got investigated.

DA: “Fuck you, I’ll do what I want.”

AG: “No, fuck you, have some misconduct and perjury charges.”
