    ***SING IT***

It is obvious that black voters could decide this election

Not only is this the case in this election – but it is becoming more and more clear that in more and more states, the majority of elections can be decided without a single (all)white vote

… which is why so many are so nervous, and so many things like statutes conscripting voting on grounds of “moral turpitude” while refusing to define what specifically that is (and while excluding Roy Moore from punishment or restriction pursuant to those criteria on any grounds, which - #Nah).

As has been said previously and more than once to all those who think their vote doesn’t matter: “If your vote didn’t matter, why do you think they’re trying so hard to keep you from exercising it??”

The choice between the two could not be more clearer [sic] for African-American voters

(either “more clear” or “clearer” #corrections #BeatThatDeadlineProfe)

Turnout is so huge. If we started seeing 80-90% turnout from POC or people under 30 a whole bunch of elections would look really different.

Old white people vote in huge numbers (partly because nobody seems to be trying to stop them) so their candidates win a lot of elections. Those candidates then go about trying to appease those old white people and making it difficult for anyone else to vote.

This is why the conversation about voter turnout MUST include conversations about voter suppression, particularly along racial lines. ALL types - including the placement and abundance of voting polls, voter ID laws, gerrymandering, etc. It all disproportionately affects Democratic voters, and especially affects voters of color.

If Roy Moore were not white, after stalking all those underage white girls, I guarantee he would be one of those who could not vote, if he were still alive, let alone run for the US Senate.

Yeah, if he’d done that shit as a black man in Alabama, there’s a decent chance he would have been lynched by the very people who are refusing to condemn him now.

Let’s get even more recent: in 2014 Alabama passed a voter ID law, in 2015 they closed two-thirds of their DMVs in the state’s “black belt”. Not hard to make the connection.

Are you there, God? It’s me, Archie. I don’t talk to you much, indeed, I’ve been much of late pretty on the fence, if I’m honest, and I think that people ask you for too much. You’re not a football bookie, or a NASCAR flag-bearer.

We need this one, God. All those priests, remember, who touched all those children? Make it up here, God. Roy Moore, well, you know, but he’s a terrible, horrible person. Please, God. Help us vote him down? I’m not even asking you to ‘make him lose’. I’m just asking you, because you help those who help themselves, help us to win. Help the voters to elect Doug Jones, God. That’s all.

    Amen.

Yet this May, new Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey—a Republican, by the way—signed H.B. 282 into law, which defines “moral turpitude” as 50 specific felonious acts. This shift could enfranchise tens of thousands of Alabamans, and that brings us back to Moore’s tweet.

With so much mention of “moral turpitude”, it might be fun to include how Kay Ivey became governor? She was Alabama’s Lieutenant Governor when the Governor, Robert J. Bentley, resigned after his sex scandal hit the news and impeachment proceedings had begun.

Would that thousands could undo Roy Moore. Hopefully Moore will be undone and begone soon, again by the thousands.

Being convicted or imprisoned should never be something that deprives you of your vote. Regardless of your crime you should still get a say in the system, especially since those imprisoned are even more vulnerable to abuses of that system than most. The system is supposed to exist to make those in charge care about the state of the vulnerable, not exist to give them power to oppress or rule. And if that means that there are so many people imprisoned or convicted of crimes that an election is decided by the convict community, then that should be a sign that those at the top in power have fucked up very badly indeed to have allowed so many people to fall into crime in the first place and maybe they need being removed from office.

I’m still reeling over the fact that an unrepentant and blatant child molester is poised to be in control of thousands of other people, and not immediately ousted. In fact, no one is really seeking to distance themselves from association with him.

Next thing you know, people won’t be ashamed to be Nazis. This could even lead to a slippery slope where people are proud to be part of Hate groups and unabashedly display their regalia with absolutely no fear of reprisal.

That would be crazy. Of course no one would sacrifice common decency for politics.

Fucking excellent! This could very well swing things.

I love the way he’s trying to paint this as a sneaky, illegal “Democrat party” effort— when it was his own Republican governor who passed the new law that allows these felons to vote.

One would think that a prospective Senator would have a better grasp of the current laws of the state he’s representing. (One would also think that a prospective Senator would not be a child molester, but that’s another matter.)

Can I get a big HAW HAW in the house? Nelson, take it away!

    Stay positive Roy.

Im sure at least a few of those felons are child molesters who will probably vote for you.
