“...when they returned home he told them what he had done. The following morning his parents contacted police.”

Wait. What? Did they sleep on it?

    Well, that’s horrible.

Our Culture seem to have become somewhat blasé about children’s access to the internet, and the internet’s access to them.

Whereas we used to fear that everyone online was a potential kidnapper, we’re letting our children share photos and personal info with strangers via facebook, snapchat and instagram.

Murderous child molestors exist on and off the Internet. They are predatory by nature and use various methods of finding victims, one of which includes the Internet.

We don’t know what occurred here other than murder.

Yes, predators are everywhere and are statistically family members of the victim.

That doesn’t make my point invalid though.

Good lord. This is, like, every parent’s deepest nightmare about the Internet. Teen gets messaged by stranger on the Internet, secretly goes off to meet him, and he turns out to be a raving psychopath.

Either than, or every parents nightmare that their adorable sweet baby grew up to be a sadistic killer.

ETA: I’m not a parent but I assume most parents want their children to grow to be good people, not vicious murderers.

I’m generally opposed to the death penalty, but these moments test that belief.

The murderer straight up sounds like a serial killer. Someone here was saying that the New Yorker published an essay about how there are many more serial killers among us than we realize. This is an example. Shudder. May the poor girl rest in peace and may her parents get justice.
