as well as easier access to the $100 million in federal funds earmarked for replacing the lead service lines in the city.

    Wait... easier access?

How is this money tied up that money given to them is in any way inaccessible?

Because the money was given to the state and not the city. The city basically has to beg the state for it when they want to use it for anything.

“After being forced by a federal judge to make a decision on the contract, the Flint City Council last week voted 5-4 to approve the contract as well.”

Who are these inept cretins, and why are they even sitting council members?! And spare me the: they ran for city council and were voted in by The People.

    Special elections: Now!

    Off with their...

Oh! I am Thankful for the people of Flint.

However, what’s with... This. Request. by “...Gov. Rick Snyder that the General Motors engine plant be able to resume use of Flint’s water supply. The plant had previously left the city’s water supply in 2014 because the water was too corrosive for its engines.”

Nope. Where have they Been getting water; while the people of Flint have been dragged through tainted water and water from lead pipes?

...All of the above quieries are posted for a friend...

FINALLY. There was a commenter here on the last article that was rightfully angry as he’s been personally affected by this. He was very passionate and his words resonated with me for weeks. I kept thinking of how powerless I felt for not being able to do much and looked into how to get involved. We can easily read and move on, but the people there don’t have that luxury. Funny how we keep failing ourselves.

Katrina, Flint water, Maria and PR. All so mortifying and shameful. For the love of God, what are they doing with my taxes if they’re not doing disaster recovery? Nothing good, I guess.

Based on the current administration I imagine those tax dollars are going to...

1.) Private flights that could easily be replaced with cheaper ones.

      2.) sexual harassment payouts.

3.) The deportation of “Illegal immigrants” in the most tone deaf of ways.

4.) Frequent trips to the Trump golf course.

      So yeah, nothing good.

Flint/Environmental Justice ought to be front and center in any Democratic 2020 presidential campaign. Sadly, I think they’re going to make more bad choices instead, like trying to win back the rural white vote.

And you know what’s bad? Whole thing could have been avoided.

Flint was already working on switching over to Detroit water, but the fucking “emergency manager” was like, nope! Can’t wait that year and a half it’d take! We need to CUT COSTS NOW!

And that’s how it started, basically, iirc. Snyder and his bullshit “emergency managers” can go have their dicks flayed.

Not to mention the whole “We forgot to put chemicals in to prevent pipe corrosion in the first place!” but then again all that did was speed up the timetable. The pipes needed replacing regardless.

Detroit is not exactly known for being clean. But the water system there is (or at least was) pretty good. I grew up in the Detroit area and never really had to think about water quality until I moved down to Florida and realized what I had been taking for granted all my life.
