Probably won’t ever be enough, but I hope his parents sue too.

Her poor daughter crying on that tape and asking her to stop yelling and swearing so the policeman wouldn’t shoot her too breaks my heart.

There have to be some cops that are ashamed of themselves out there. Individuals may differ, but as a group you are now synonymous with brutality, stupidity, and murder.

ETA- Fuck you if you are for Citizen’s Rights but villify BLM and suck fascist boot when the victim is anyone but a white lady.

The most striking part to me was the fear in her voice as she was trying to comfort the child while still trying to show the officer respect and deference is just heartbreaking.

To be honest, I’d either be silenr or drop a huge bunch of profanity if you shot the person next to me on the bus, never mind a loved one next to me in a little car.

Watch people try ro act like that was not an intensely traumatizing event for Diamond.

Let’s hope there’s an across-the-board pay cut at the police department to pay for that settlement.

If they did something like you suggested, then it would cut down on cover-ups and lead to more accountability. No one likes their money to be messed with and coworkers aren’t family.

That would solve a lot of problems, but the police union will have a contract that specifically prohibits that. That’s why cities like NYC can pay out a 100 mil a year in police brutality settlements and still turn around handout milsurp gear on top of the 100k salaries to every fat pig on the force. The kill people at will and it won’t even cost them the price of the bullet.

In the days of Jim Crow, rather than go to jail, I recall reading about how a black female rape victim received $300, rather than her white assailant doing time.

Whitey does not go to jail 99.9% of the time.

How much to kill a black person? How much to rape a black woman? It’s not a f’ing menu; these are crimes for which there are supposed to be consequences for the perpetrator.

It blows my mind that cities will spend all this money settling with families of people of color the police kill, rather than just knock off all the killing.
