    1. You are giving up 400K for a new truck in order to keep this cheap ass made in china piece or polyester fuckery with a racist symbol in it. That is hurting something.

    2. That you refuse to take the flag down and are willingly giving up the new truck means that you’re so fucking racist that you’ll cut off your own damn nose to spite your face.

    3. That no one has put their foot up your ass to take down the damn flag and keep the shiny new truck means your members and your department as a whole is racist as fuck.

    We’re open to negotiating, but one thing we are not willing to do is change our position in any way. Wait, what does negotiate mean again?

      I don’t see them saying they’re open to negotiating. I see them saying they are willing to be supported, but only if they are supported in their choice to do whatever they want. It’s the rarely seen “I work for you and you’ll do what I tell you” gambit.

    There must be something I’m not understanding here about the volunteer fire department arrangement. The county don’t have any better leverage to make these doofuses stop flying their pro-slavery flag on government-owned property, besides cutting funding?

    The county have every reason to make them stop flying the flag, but cutting funding, and thereby putting county residents at risk of burning to death for lack of firefighting equipment, seems like a less than ideal solution.

      Fire departments are often organized as “special districts” which means they are a separate body from the county or city government. They sometimes get funding the city, county or state controls, but in other instances they have their own tax base/rate setting ability/funding sources, and definitely their own rules and bylaws. This is actually the most common form of local government unit in the country and covers things like school districts, library districts and watershed districts, too. Typically the state government has a lot more power over them, but it is North Carolina.

      Who is doing that? The fire fighters. Their bad. Get a paid force. If they fly racist symbols, they can be fired. On top of that, you know that the 22% of your community who are black will also be protected by that fire department.

    There should be a law that says you can fly either the American flag or the Confederate flag but not both and, as an added bonus, the people that fly the Confederate flag should be set on fire.
