I have only seen one episode Master of None and it was the Thanksgiving episode. I’d read about it in the spring and I was so glad I watched it. I knew I was watching something special at the time.

That is, hands-down, probably the best episode of television in the history of the genre. And I’ve watched a lot of television since I was three in the 70s. It is so funny and sad and true about Black family life. I’m from a family of a bunch of women and it was like watching my life on screen. Something I’d never seen prior to that episode.

YES!! Her comments on joy and not being downtrodden is exactly something I just talked about under the Mudbound post. Yes, those stories are important but I want to see that exultant joy. I don’t even mind if they’re is some white nonsense as long as some Black people get over on them and rub it in their faces. But what I did love about the Thanksgiving episode is that it had nothing to do with white people and showed how important and human Black life is.
