Draymond Green, in his speech at Harvard a couple days ago, had a great retort to the “stick to sports” people, in which he said -

“That’s funny,” Green said, according to Chris Haynes of ESPN. “The reason that’s funny is because they say athletes can’t speak on politics. Well, I find that funny because everyone thinks they can speak basketball.”

“Stick to sports” is the equivalent of sticking your fingers in your ears and going “la la la”. The mouthbreathers who troll athletes online and have “I stand” (which is so utterly stupid I can’t even respond to it) as their Facebook profile pic can’t stand (har har) when a black athlete does anything other than play the game. They have no problem with white athletes espousing white Jesus, hypocritical ‘family values’ and other facets of the white status quo.

And if anyone has more reason to talk about the intersection of sports and “politics”, it’s journalists. And, these are not mutually exclusive ideas. But, in the words of the great former NFL fullback Lorenzo Neal, I “digest.”

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again and again and again. Colin Kaepernick is the Muhammad Ali of our time, and even more so.
