In addition, two Chicago police officers who alleged they were blackballed for trying to expose Watts’ corruption years ago won a $2 million settlement in their whistleblower lawsuit.

And so why isn’t that whole precinct facing jail time or at least a firing? It’s pretty clear that a ton of people were covering for this Watts guy and he only got caught because his dumb ass fucked with the FBI.

Lifelong Chicagoan here - As the daughter of a retired CPD officer, I can tell you that the union is damn near impenetrable for such a thing to occur. Basically, your fuck-up would have to be perfectly epic in order for them not to be able to get you out of some shit (see above).

Second this. There is a culture of silence, and if you dare to speak up against corruption within the ranks, you better be prepared to be harassed right out of the city and state.

This is why elections matter, folks. No, not every party is the same. Hell, not even all the candidates on our side have the same values.

Kim Foxx is a vast improvement over her predecessor. Don’t ever let someone else’s cyncism make you apathetic about changing things.

This is why we have the BULLSH!T we got now. He was allowed to happen. When people came forward they were mistreated, so it just became easier to look the other way. This is nothing new look at Frank Serpico in NYC. Then you get that thin blue line BS, you are not policeman you are a crook with a badge and should be treated as such. At least you not getting that standard BS line you usually get “We stand behind our prosecution” from the DA.

The criminal justice system has GOT to stop believing these fucking cops, just because...dirtiest muthafuckas EVER!
Good on Kim Foxx for vacating these charges quickly, instead of, like GP pointed out, shoring up a bogus conviction just for prosecution rates...

This is what ALWAYS happens to the “Good Cop” when they try to do the right thing. Every PD in this country needs to be reformed with civilian review boards ASAP. Also, pay any settlements from the PD’s pension fund for the officers.
