      😂😂😂

I was for real going to say it was because he had that white girl arrested.

Kinda hope she doesn’t get murdered or a harsher sentence because of the coup attempt/even harsher crackdown on speech. Or anyone else arrested for protesting that Government.

I don’t think that arresting one white lady would cause an international governmental push for his resignation if the president allowing free passes for people killing white farmers and their families didn’t cause enough backlash for it to happen.

It breaks my heart to see so many African freedom fighters like Mugabe and the entire freaking ANC turn into another form of oppression against their own people.

It’s a lesson that’s been true the world over since forever. If your revolution is powered by a single individual and you give power to them ... dictatorship, oppression, and horrifying mismanagement are unavoidable.

The thing that’s hard to tell is whether that power is what corrupts ... pretty much all of them, or if their willingness to take advantage of whatever power people will give them is what puts them in a position to be given said power.

That’s one place where, despite removing a lot of the revisionism around freedom and the ugly legacy of slavery, America’s Revolution comes out looking a bit better.

As important as George Washington was, he was hardly alone as a figurehead and organizer of the resistance. So many other characters had a large hand to play in everything, which made it so that power didn’t get consolidated as tightly in the aftermath.

Things can’t get much worse there, so hopefully this is good for Zimbabwe. Even soldiers who ARE getting paid can see that their relatives are starving in what was once Africa’s premier agricultural producer. I’m sure it felt good to “requisition” land from white farmers and hand it out to whoever wanted it, but the operative word there is “farmers.” As in people who know how to grow shit. Now the country is broke to boot. NEXT!

forcing white people to say “there goes the neighborhood” and flee the country.

And anyone else with means and sense.

It was always going to be a really shitty succession. The options are the VP, who has basically been Mugabe’s right hand man in all of the dumb shit Mugabe’s done over the years, or Mugabe’s wife, who’s going to be a “more of the same” style successor as well.

Both of them were always going to try and rig the elections.

The military seized the state run television station because it was a bastion of support for Robert Mugabe. When they fired the VP, they didn’t even air his press conference explaining what was going on.

I think Mugabe fired the Crocodile because he thought it was the only viable chance his wife had to be the one in power. Ultimately it didn’t work because Crocodile has more allies in the military than Mugabe.

If there was ever a military coup to be ambivalent about ...

    I just have to say:

Lolz to all the greys who are claiming Mugabe destroyed Zimbabwe and also all of Africa. As if the horrors of colonialism didn’t (doesn’t) exist. As if the entire continent was doing nothing until white men came to exploit it, I mean make it into a breadbasket.

    Okay. Be foolish.

This article understates how horribly bad the Zimbabwe economy has performed since the land distribution. Mugabe gives his friends large farms only problem is many of these friends were not farmers, so it is not shocking that the previously strong “bread basket” of Africa agricultural system is in tatters.

The economy disaster was caused by sanctions that all white nations imposed on Zimbabwe after the government grabbed back the lands that whites settlers have stolen during the scramble of Africa by European powers.

If that is the story you like to tell yourself. But even Mugabe now admits the land seizers have tanked economy. What pray tell are the “white nations” sanctions that have caused formerly productive lands to become unproductive.

Now this is the sort of thing that the term “deep state” actually refers to.

Trading one dictator for another probably isn’t going to do much for Zimbabwe, especially given the new one is now indebted to the military and will need to give them goodies. I wonder how many big Mugabe loyalists will be dispossessed and their property will end up in the hands of the army or civilian supporters of the army. Zimbabwe might pull an Egypt.

Shout out to Zim and all folks from there. This slowly calcifying carcass has terrorized folks long enough. What a bloody disappointment.
