Reminds me of a wedding/reception that I attended, a few weeks ago. The couple is Ghanian-Trini, so of course, the music at the reception was going to be uptempo and entertaining. *Cue in the butt-hurt black folk, who thought it was inappropriate to dance at the wedding to soca/Afro-beat/dancehall/reggae music because wypipo were there*

Those black folks must’ve been to some boring ass weddings. I have never been to a black wedding reception that was not lit, no matter how classy the ceremony was. These people are washed.

I didn’t know there was a Pro Cardi B /Anti Tiffany Haddish beef going on. Further more, how can such a thing be when they’re pretty much the same type of performer? You’ll never put either one of these women in the same camp as Wanda Sykes or Aisha Tyler, for example.

Now, I have seen Pro-Tiffany vs. Anti-Leslie Jones discussions, which is even more insane because Tiffany and Leslie have the same exact performance style.

Cardi B vs. Tiffany Haddish? Tie.

Black women have always been subjected to a double standard in the black community, but what scares me more is the new normalization of vulgarity and crudeness in Black culture in general. The bar has been lowered and everything goes. What was on the margins of black life are quickly become mainstream. The standards have been lowered and folks are afraid to point it out. There is no other group-culture in America that tolerates, much less celebrate, the kind of degeneration and degradation of its culture like we do. Future generations will shame us.

Black women are considered the lowest rung of society, so black women cannot have ANYTHING until everyone else has EVERYTHING. Only black woman and their admirers think differently.

I’ve never almost actually lost my mind until I heard black men complaining about black women getting married. It’s as if their suppression is the last bastion of happiness for bitter motherfuckers that rather sit on their hands than applaud black women.

It’s the Nigger Rule in full effect. It states:

The world needs Niggers. They need someone to point and laugh at and look down on. When life hits you with a sharp jab before coming across with a heavy right, the Nigger Rule lets you say, “at least I’m not that Nigger.” A Nigger lets you know that you aren’t on the bottom. If you look down and don’t see anyone below you, guess what, Nigga?

Now what do black men do that don’t want to be on the bottom? They look down on the one group that no one will give them shit for fucking with. They don’t want them to have anything because lowly motherfuckers like that know that ANY accomplishment by black women would overshadow their trifling asses.

I’m not familiar with either of the people you mentioned, but from reading the article, I think I understand the gist of what you’re saying.

When I was younger, I was dating a black girl. She was (and still is, we’re still friends) a very intelligent, skilled person. For the inner nerd, she was perfect, attractive, into Star Trek/Star Wars, played violin & piano, funny, and intelligent. One afternoon, another group of black girls came up to her and started insulting her after she gave me a hug and kiss goodbye. Their problem with her? She’d “forgotten” she was black because she was dating a white guy, spoke eloquently, and dressed sharply. She said that of all the times she’d been called names, having that group of girls berate her hurt her worse than anything else a white racist had said. She wasn’t trying to be anything other than herself.

All groups are bad about what they consider acceptable based on their own race. As a white guy, I’ve often made the comment that people are more open to interracial relationships, so long as the girl isn’t white. I’ve heard Hispanics, married to white people, criticize blacks and whites together, I guess because the shade contrast is “too much”. I’ve seen black people called Oreos for being successful and white people called “Wiggers” because they’re into gangster rap.

Its too bad that so many people are so focused on making sure they stay exactly like their ethnicity says they should be.

She seems funny (from what little I’ve seen, behind on my movies), is riding a wave of popularity, and seems to be presenting an authentic self. Can’t say that I see the problem (not that I necessarily would, though).

So I have not seen Girl’s Trip, however I did see the SNL skit where she played Boo Boo Jeffries. Swear to god, Capcom or Bandai should make an actual character. It was hilarious. I think people are just upset because it’s a woman who is comfortable with herself and basically gives no fucks. People seem to hate that. My real worry is the new She’s Gotta Have It Reboot....I have issues with it.

I can understand both sides. Black women get so few chances on the national stage. I have friends who have problems with Taraji’s portrayal as Cookie on Empire for being ghetto/stereotypical. I do think we need to see more different types of Black women in mainstream media. Tiffany Haddish is just being herself though. Comedy circles are notoriously White and male. It’s a different world from rap music.

Black Women have been killing it on the national stage, as of late. You have a more diverse group of sisters in the spotlight now than ever before. From Cookie, to Nova, to Charlie to Cardi to Ava to Beyonce to Rihanna’s beauty products to Ava...etc, Sistas are doing it for themselves, now more than ever.

SIDEBAR: I give Taraji props for showing her range, from going from Detective Carter on Person Of Interest to a full 180 as Cookie Lyon on Empire. Ms. Henson is no one trick pony.

      i so very much agree.

from the outside, way outside, looking in, this seems like a no-win scenario for a black woman, because she isn’t allowed to be that, she’s being asked/forced to be A Black Woman. no gender, no race no body is a monolith, and if society or the media or current social mores are only allowing you to present yourself as a caricature or a goddess, thereby tacitly saying anything else is nothing else, then i have no idea how they prevent themselves from burning everything down, every day.

we can accept and understand and embrace more than one or two things at a time, darkest timeline, just let people be who they are, those of us that can handle it will handle it, those that cannot can continue to make fools of themselves, which makes them easier to spot in a crowd.

So Haddish is “too crass,” but Schumer is “brave?” Like the author, no shade here, but i’m appalled by how apparent stuff like this is.

AND YET PEOPLE STILL DENY IT.

I know many disagree. I watched ‘Girl’s Trip’ and chortled a few times at her. Watched her SNL monologue and all THAT elicited was a grim smile.

“Some have referred to Haddish as being crass, loud and overtly vulgar.”

I’ve been hearing Tiffany on podcasts and seeing her videos for the last few years and sure, she can definitely be those things, but she’s definitely a sweet, smart, ambitious, and genuine lady. She’s got the talent and drive to go far. I hope she gets the chance do that and more.

Additionally, It’s extra bizarre that Whoopi has never hosted, considering she has an EGOT while other lesser-awarded stars have hosted *multiple* times. However, I’ve heard people devalue that accomplishment because Whoopi won it. Sure, she’s cashing a paycheck on The View, but she’s a black woman in the American entertainment system whose had a 4 decade career AND gotten the awards to go with it. Most *white men* haven’t done that. She’s *beyond* Chaplin, she just doesn’t get the respect due.

I absolutely love Tiffany Haddish because she’s relatable. She’s like your favorite older cousin you can’t wait to see at family functions because says and does whatever she wants. She’s the one that makes your aunts do a serious eye roll the minute she walks in. I hope she continues to be super successful.
