Simmons is a fantastic school in that they have some really great programs focused on public service. In my non-profit years a great number of colleagues had pursued work there and in each case it was immensely positive. So, hurrah! Good for them. Also, not much of a surprise :) Simmons gets overshadowed by Boston’s other schools, but for actual working people in the area it has been a godsend of quality, flexible upward mobility.

I miss Gwen every evening. Never a clue she was ill with endometrial cancer other than her absences. And because this is The Root, it might be a good time to mention that “... African Americans had a mortality rate from endometrial cancer that was 79 percent greater than the rate in Whites.” https://academic.oup.com/aje/article/165/3/262/135113

    The takeaway is get tested.

    1. Cool!

    2. Now students at one Boston-area college will be able to study in a school that bears her name.

Whoa! It’s actually a Boston-area school! Usually “Boston-area” is trucked out to describe schools/businesses in, like, Worcester.

Really? The only “Boston area” schools I can think of that technically aren’t in Boston are Harvard and MIT, but they’re definitely Boston area.

BU, BC, Northeastern, Simmons and Good Will Hunting Community College are all physically in Boston.

Hers was such an important voice and I can’t believe she’s not here to help us sort through the insanity/bullshit we’re living through right now.

That being said, why did I click on that! I’M NOT CRYING. YOU’RE CRYING. When Obama came on I just totally lost it. (Ugh, this week. I can’t believe it’s only Tuesday.)

To be honest, I haven’t been able to get through the entire segment since it first aired.
