I think a time is coming where we have to create a penalty for White people who want to say nigger.

Not yelling at them. Not tweeting at them. Not threatening. But a legit penalty that will shake them to the core.

At first, I thought it would be monetary, because there’s nothing more a White person hates more than being hit in the pocket. But then....I realized, there actually is something White people hate more than money woes.

    Silence.

We should force a White person who said the word to just sit in a chair, preferably chained, as 3-5 Black people just sit there and stare at them. The story will write itself from there, because NOTHING makes White people more uncomfortable than absolute silence and dismissal, which allows them to draw their own conclusions of how much we hate them, how bad of a person they really are, and how could such a horrible thing happen to them.

All because they can’t stand the thought of being judged.

White people love taking up space, too. Especially space for Black people and POC. And then they accuse us of being white. And when we’re like WTF are you talking about with your white ass, they double down and jump in on conversations with their whiteness and still don’t listen when we tell them to shut the hell up.

Oh shit, my bad, I’m talking about something else.....

I actually lol’ed. I still don’t know why White people come to a Black space and then complain that we don’t cater to them or want to hear their opinions lol. Like, go back to literally any other website on the internet or read a book or something. Leave us alone fragile White people.

The weird thing is that they believe they are owed an explanation for why they can’t use it. That is the whitest part of the entire equation.

    This.

Helpful tip for Peter Vecsey (and other non-black folk that wish to rap along) replace the word you should not say with “ninja”. Fits right in and it’s an easy habit to adopt.

As for why you can’t say it, I’ve got a short, simple explanation:
If there’s a chance you’ll be assaulted or killed for no reason other than the color of your skin, you may use the word. Everyone else (who is not at risk of harm due to their pigment) should say ninja. The end.

Respectfully disagree. It’s like fuck versus fudge. Or blanking it out in a song, or doing exactly what he did with the asterisk party. “nj” in place of “gg” feels like wanting to be pat on the head for stopping short of shooting a gun you never should have been holding in the first place. I vote to replace it with the (pro)noun ‘nigga’ is referencing. In the verse, Biggie was talking about a man, or a dude, or a sucker, bastard, knucklehead, ______ (whatever other creative word you want to use for a man). Eminem is problematic but he has this part down. It keeps the sentiment of the flow without the distraction of making us evaluate whether ‘ninja’ was okay in this moment. ‘Ninja’ demands we center the personhood of the speaker instead of concentrating on his or her words.

“If there’s a chance you’ll be assaulted or killed for no reason other than the color of your skin, you may use the word”.

Unfortunately I’m going to ask you to consider a different perspective on this one, too. I know you’re tired of me! Many PoC are in danger of being assaulted for their skin color. It is not skin color which permits the use of the word. As a Black woman, I cannot give out passes for nigga for any non-Black person. Period. I’m not even comfortable hearing the word out of the mouths of Black people from the diaspora who did not have generations entrenched in our uniquely American use of the word and its heritage of reclamation. Some of those same, “look like you” folks use that word to play around with but in no way feel like niggas, and consider us niggers to boot.

Not at all. When I’m incorrect, I appreciate someone telling me why (it’s much more useful than simply being scolded). For example, until you said it, I wasn’t aware that being black isn’t an automatic qualifier. Time to watch the Coates video again.

    This is all so round-and-round-we-go...
This shit is explained in a multitude of ways, dialects, with AND without diagrams and instruction manuals...

White people are just ignorant assholes who will continue to whine about something that they have no rightful access to.

Tell ‘em “no, don’t” and they lose their ever-loving minds...

And now the greys will fill with a dozen versions of “why can’t we say it” and “you’re the real racist”. So for probably the millionth time, if my sister calls me white trash, I will laugh. If someone I don’t know calls me white trash, I will get belligerent. This logic applies to n-word use times about a billion. If you’re white, don’t say it.

So I went to the Vecsey tweet and the commentary, from the people who are saying it’s okay for Pete to say what he said because it was a rap verse, to the black folks saying it’s not really racist because he censored the word, to the “classic” N*gger/N*gga debate, just makes me want to unload a flamethrower on all of it.

Just wait until he comes out talking about how he only was hanging out with black people in the 60s and 70s at Rucker and in the Bronx. Like we get it Peter, you were cool with black people before it was a thing for white people to do, but come on man.

Look, white folks, if you’re going to use the word, actually use it and make it count. Don’t be Peter Vecsey.

No one thinks Vecsey held a years-long resentment against black people that festered inside him for seven-plus decades. I will even venture to say that Vecsey is not a racist. He probably doesn’t hold an iota of hate in that heart that will soon stop ticking.

And this is after Vecsey’s tweet you embedded:

So white people cant quote rap lyrics?!?! Cant sing them?!?! Bull shit!!

You don’t think he’s a racist? Nigga wut?! lol

The most aggravating argument I’ve heard is something along the lines of well we invented the N word so we should be able to use it. My most PG-13 response has been Seriously? And was that “invention” a good thing or something to be proud of? Ya bloodclot.
