Tesla and Elon Musk have an Apple like following that I cant stand, especially on Jalopnik where I frequent. Because of that you’re gonna get calls of bullshit from the accusers because they blindly think this man is single handedly changing the world and him nor his company can do no wrong. Tesla is overhyped and over valued and because of yet ANOTHER discrimination lawsuit, I have even more of a reason not to like them.

I have a neighbor who put money down on a Tesla Model 3 expecting delivery this month. She sold her car and was driving a scooter around town when they didn’t deliver on time. Now the delivery is pushed back to January (optimistic) and she’s had to rent a car to fill the gap. This has not affected her devotion to Electric Jesus one bit.

I’ve talked to and read too many stories about people waiting on this car. The production and quality issues they’ve been having wouldnt be tolerated had this been any other company. I wouldve asked for my deposit back months ago.

Really? A company from Silicon Valley is hilariously inept at combating racism? I’m shocked, shocked I say.

How can you be fired for “not having a positive attitude”. Da FAQ?!? Like a majority of working Americans should out of work every Monday.

Cali has at will employment laws. Basically there aren’t any laws protecting worker rights. You can be fired at any time for any reason.

You can literally be fired for anything in most of America if you’re not unionized.

As a white man, I’d complain that your blanket statement that all white people are racists is deeply unfair, but I can’t. All I can say is that I’m only racist against racists. I’ve previously floated the idea that I’d like to start a hate group that targets hate groups, which makes me even more of a racist, I think. Does that make me a “good” racist?

I regards to Tesla, I really hope this isn’t true, but if it is, I feel shame and anger. I really hoped that Musk and his people were better than this.

Take Hoodoo’s frustration and generalization with a grain of salt. White people are usually rewarded for being culturally ignorant, and worse, grow to be proud of judging other cultures they were afraid to interact or relate with in the first place.

When you put yourself in a minority’s shoes, it feels tight, doesn’t it? Like the world wants you to believe you serve the douchebags in suits with lots of money, the spoiled kids with rich parents, and are nothing more than a pawn.

I read the headline and thought, “Well. That sounds bad.”

Then, I read Musk’s email and WOW. He managed to sound even worse than I initially suspected.

Not shocked. I know people who work there and the workspace is tiring and hostile if you don’t meet all of management’s demands.

Shit, workplaces in general seem hostile on the human body, even the lower labor positions.

I hope they do too, but the problem is the dollars they make. Very few places will pay them like Tesla. And that makes me sad

The comments on the original Jalopnik article are hit and miss (and a few “I don’t get the problem, plz explain” type comments), but this one is worth repeating:

Vin: Always a solid move for a white South African employer to tell a black employee to toughen up and just deal with working alongside a racist.

Lawsuit Alleges That Calif. Tesla Factory Is ‘Hotbed for Racist Behavior’

Not at all surprising. Plus, Californians and Bay Area locals need to stop patting themselves on the back for being “good progressives”. California is as ass backwards on several fronts as the rest of the US. Just because you “can always point to Alabama”, it’s no reason to be smug.
From a recent letter to the East Bay Express:

    Berkeley Isn’t Liberal

Berkeley is becoming more racist by the day! And it is reflected in the policing practices. Stop trying to paint Berkeley as the bastion of liberalism! It isn’t anymore!

The Bakke case was in the 70s, right? Berkeley is just like any other Cambridge-like white “ally” — no better, no worse - just like in the tournament.

    *sigh*

I have a 2 year old and a 4 year old. They tend to beat the crap out of each other, both accidentally and on purpose. I make them apologize when they hurt each other.

BUT THAT’S NOT ALL I DO. Because an apology is standard but it doesn’t fix anything. I also tell them they have to try to fix the issue. If they grabbed a toy, they have to give it back. If they knock down blocks, they have to offer to help rebuild. If they hit something out of someone’s hands they have to pick it up.

But wait! Still not done. I also explain to them that the person they hurt has the right to be angry with them and an apology doesn’t fix anything. If you hit your brother with a dump truck, he might not want to play with you and that’s ok.

If my two year old can get this....

I’d argue the first part is pretty much the difference between an apology, and a sincere apology. A sincere apology isn’t just characterized by the tone of voice, but the behavioral change attempting to fix the problem afterwards.

      Seriously. My five-year-old gets it:

Let’s say we start at 0. Then you do something that hurts me. Now we’re at -1.

An apology is important and necessary, but it’s also standard. It doesn’t give you any points.

Doing something nice to make up for the thing that hurt me can get us back to where we started (0), sometimes it can even make things a little better than before, but sometimes it doesn’t quite get us back to the start because part of the hurt is still there.

Or, as he put it way more succinctly than I ever did with a schoolmate (at age 4!) when explaining why an apology is a good thing but not adequate in itself: “saying “I burned down your house but I’m sorry” is better than not saying sorry, but it still doesn’t give me back my house.” 4 YEARS OLD.
