    While developers have eyed the historically black area as a target for gentrification, Pilgram looks to preserve the heritage and history of the district. He plans on building a restaurant, jazz lounge, a performing arts center as well as retail and residential spaces, the real estate magnate told NBC Miami.

    AWESOME. Not feasible on a widespread basis/as a panacea, but it’s nice to see this kind of investment as opposed to the usual “investments” offered by gentrification.

    2 points. 1 it’s a good story and a good model that we rarely see those of Black privilege do per capita and on the same scale(talkin bout the ballers and whatnot. emphasis on scale) 2. Skeptical as we know throughout history, if we build it they will knock it down.

      Well, he probably has thought it through that it’s not like there’s a city or country on earth - literally - that’s majority-white-populated that doesn’t have some form of racist nonsense (and some that aren’t majority-white-populated still have it) ... so he probably thought as long as he had the skills he might as well stay where he was and make that place as nice a one as he could.
