I had written about this story about a month ago in a long Twitter thread where I named serial predators like Bryan Singer, Michael Bay, Terry Richardson, etc. Poor Gemmel, it seems like once again the onus has been put on Moore’s family to keep the investigation open and find justice for the murder of their son. It’s amazing how much leeway you get if you’re a white man who’s responsible for the death of a young man, especially if the victim is black. Ed Buck is a fucking predator who deserves to be in jail. I have no doubt in my mind he did something to poor Gemmel. I hope this case gets the national coverage it deserves.

Can we finally talk about how hostile and racist “gay spaces” can be for queer POC? Can we address the issues of racism and predation in the LGBTQ community?

Thank you for keeping this story in the light. This predator and drug pusher needs to be locked up yesterday.

It always amuses me when queer people say, “Oh, I can’t be **** bc I’m queer.” Automatic nope.

Also it sucks that this case won’t get the national coverage it deserves, or if it does then just because the guy was a sex worker his death will be seen as less important, or a part of doing business.

Second @cali4life - thank you for writing about this.

apparently facebook keeps scrubbing links to this story from this site and from the site of the woman who first reported it.

Fuck that guy and thank you for writing about this.

Even if he hadn’t killed someone he should be in jail for forcing them to do drugs. And even if he hadn’t forced them ... having a fetish for young black men *but only if they’re high* is super fucking gross. What a terrible human being.

I could be wrong, but it occurred to me he might be into a race play thing where he wanted them to roleplay as “crackheads.”

I hope this article garners enough attention and Buck can be brought to justice.

There’s never going to be enough evidence in a case like this. While it seems obvious that his behavior at least led to Moore’s death, if not worse, it seems like it would be pretty easy for Buck’s legal defense to punch holes in this case.

My stepson died from a drug overdose of methadone provided by his mother. We urged police to charge her; an officer told us bluntly that he was over 18 and responsible for his own decisions.

I am presuming this death was from an overdose. The family will face even more of an uphill battle because of color and sexuality. I’m sorry - I have a dim grasp of the pain they feel.

Not only did Ed Gillespie have a fetish for black men, he was known in West Hollywood’s gay community as paying top dollar for sex with twenty-something-year old black escorts ...

I suspect autocomplete changed the Eds involved... although Ed Gillespie has lots of free time these days.

This is a real-life horror story. Gemmel suffered, was brutalized, killed and his family left to suffer both his loss and this unspeakable injustice. It involved a hateful White guy in a position of power, yet has not become national news. This the the FIRST TIME I’m hearing of this-I cannot find the words to express how profoundly disturbing that is.

This was a really good article on a very sad story. I hope Moore’s family is able to get answers and those that help them don’t end up going to jail due to their sex worker status. It is ridiculous it is even a possibility and this sort of attitude/action helps predators stay out there.

I remember this story from last year and I recall wondering to myself why it wasn’t getting more attention. I mean it had everything that our present news media loves so much: sex, drugs, money, murder, a tenuous connection to Hilary Clinton. I chalked it up to the election maybe swallowing up all the air in the room so to speak but honestly we all know the reason why no one cares. A dead black sex worker has never been of great interest to the world at large and add to that the victim is gay and that pretty much guarantees the story will not receive much attention. Much like the uptick in murders of black trans women hasn’t gotten nearly the amount of attention it deserves.

While Ed Buck is pure scum, from a legal standpoint what is the state going to charge him with? Is there any evidence that foul play was involved in Moore’s death? It was ruled a drug overdose. So the guy solicited black male prostitutes and liked to get them high on drugs. There is no evidence he physically forced these drugs on anyone. And while Moore’s mother said her son told her force was used there is no physical evidence that there was. In fact one of the sources for the article ,“Cameron”, said he would do them if Buck paid extra. He simply made it a precondition of the encounter and was willing to pay for it. Without evidence of force, Moore becoming addicted to drugs through his encounters with Buck is not a crime.

I think Buck should be put into the deepest darkest hole there is and never let out but there has to be something to charge him with before you arrest and try him for murder and you need the evidence to prove it. I am not familiar with the laws of California but I don’t think there is much the state can do.

Hey, this sounds like some recent blind items on crazydaysandnights ‘dot’ net. The sexual predators of adults are finally being identified, but on that site you see the pedophile rings, murderers, and links to California politicians are coming soon. It’s gonna make our current pariahs go “well I’m not THAT bad.”
