Then there’s that shitty Taylor Swift song.

ok but let’s have a quick conversation about that, she’s rapping y’all. And the becky’s over at Jez are like “She not rapping, she’s talk singing”

    .......

Why do you do that to yourself?

To be fair to actual, talented lyricists, I wouldn’t call her bullshit “rapping” either.

I don’t think of him based on the color of his skin or culture, nor does he think of me based on my skin color or culture. We’ve had the conversation. I see him only as Daniel. He sees me as Mike. This is based on our personalities.

Doing this “I don’t see color” shit is doing his “friend” Daniel a big disservice. You’ve got people walking the streets now, swarming online and who would like nothing more than to see “Daniel” wiped off the face of the Earth just for the color of his skin. If you can’t respond to that and acknowledge Daniel’s skin color and want to work to change that, then you’re no friend of Daniel’s. Not seeing Daniel’s skin color means not seeing what Daniel has to deal with when he’s not with his friend Mike Who Doesn’t See Color. It means not seeing Daniel.

Yeah .... dude might not see skin color, but the cops sure as hell will.

I really think the baby boom generation did their kids a huge disservice by teaching them that “colorblindness” was a worthy goal. At one time, at least to white liberals, maybe it seemed like a good idea, but clearly all it resulted in was a bunch of clueless white people who “don’t see color” and have to be constantly reminded that yes, racism is still a thing. It’s frustrating.

First, is there even a Daniel?

Second, I need to know if this person has a kinja account because I need him to answer for the fact that he is such a shit friend. Nothing says I’m a great friend like dismissing who you are and your life experiences.

I always let my white friends know that if they say something crazy. And they reach out to me for a black friend card, when they try to swipe that shit it will decline.

I found out from someone else that a white woman I dropped from my life was literally going around saying that I was her black friend. I wish I had heard about that before I deleted all her contact info because I would have gone off.

White people, quick, ask yourselves this. If you don’t see color ... how do you know all your friends aren’t black?

... where’s that Inception sound when you need it?

I have a co-worker who hits me with the “I don’t see color” bit every time anything slightly pertaining to race comes up (he and I are both white). I seem to be the only recipient of this line of conversation from what I can tell and I’m not really sure why. While he says this, and has maybe convinced himself he’s sincere, he voted for and seems to be a little in love with Trump. And gave me serious side eye as well as telling me “I didn’t seem like that type” when a black guy I was dating a few months ago stopped by to have lunch with me. When I asked him what he meant he quickly changed the subject... because of course he did

Fuck him. The only thing worse than a racist is a “nice” racist who has to remind you all the time that he’s not racist while saying racist shit.

It might behoove Blue53 and other like-minded ilk to remember that those kids do grow up to be adults, and at some point will intersect with the current group of oppressors, via voting, paying taxes, etc. So, basically, how you treat those kids is exactly how you’ll (general sense) will be treated in old age.

That’s if they make it to old age.

Indeed. Today’s little kid who needs clothes, food, and a roof over their head is likely to grow up and affect your life in some way, whether through their wages paying SS in a passive way or in an active way. Hell, will hope they tell a kid to their face to screw off only to have to depend on that kid in 30/40+ years for butt-wiping at the nursing home.

That has almost always been the basic rationale of society: today’s kids are tomorrow’s adults, so if we wanna keep this thing going, we need to take care of ‘em.

People like Blue53 are not fit to live in society.

Waaiiiit a second. The first letter is from “Michael H”?... Now, I’m not Columbo or even Action Jackson, but Mr. Michael Harriot are you secretly Michael H the letter writer and you are arguing with yourself that you don’t see color and you have a black friend (and penis in mouth, etc)? That’s very meta of you, sir.
