Some of these comments on Madison’s racial identity...smh. I never see any of those people when we talk tennis here and all of a sudden they pop out to talk shit on one of the few black/brown faces in tennis? Fuck off.

Anyway, like Madison when she was a little girl watching Venus play, there will be other black and mixed girls watching these matches who will see her and Sloane playing fantastic tennis and will be inspired to do the same. That’s the importance of Venus and Serena.

Hopefully we get a three setter. Can Sloane’s movement keep up with Madison’s serve and groundstrokes? When faced with the opportunity to close out the match, will they seize victory or choke? Should be interesting! Love seeing talented, young players win their first major.

Sloane doesn’t have a huge serve but she needs a lot of first serves. Otherwise Madison will make quick work of her powder puff second serves. But Sloane does have the speed to drive Madison crazy. Should be an interesting contrast.

Some of these comments on Madison’s racial identity...smh.

      Crazy right?

Yuuup. They’ve only played once before, I think? So this should be very interesting. And we’ll see if Madison’s thigh holds up because Sloane can move her from side to side, especially if she’s playing the margins and has a low UE count.

Those comments are disappointing to say the least. We champion the right to self-identify and then some people are saying fuck her she’s not identifying to my liking? Wtf? Is it no wonder bi- and multi-racial people feel like they don’t fit in with anybody? I guess I’m in my feelings because my niece is mixed and she’s said similar things like Madison, so I’m trying not to force anything on her and let her decide for herself. Also, my niece occasionally watches tennis with me and a player like Madison who looks like her (or Syd Leroux and Christen Press when we watch women’s soccer) actually matter. Representation matters.

Keys is team “I’m not black or white and don’t think about race at all”, so EFF her. I am rooting for Sloane and yeah I want Venus to come back and slay more chicks before she retires.

Lol, right! Black ppl really have got to stop claiming biracials. Especially those who haven’t claimed us. This girl’s dad looks mixed, he probably doesn’t claim to be black either, and she’s could be less than 25% black, people like her should have their own category.

Lets watch and see who the white people are going to pull for because I KNOW it’s going to be Madison. There’s already murmurs of her saying she’s not Black (I’d like to see receipts but I don’t have time to search right now). I’ve already stated my case on Madison (see her name and her mama). More importantly Sloane has earned her time to shine. She beat a GOAT, she’s coming back from an injury, she continued to play despite losing her dad a couple years back...she is Black girl magic personified.

With that said I’m not saying a biracial person can’t be magic, but so far I don’t think Madison’s the one. But we’ll see. Being in the spotlight and being as brown as she is, she’ll see who will really scope her up and embrace her. A match against a darker skin Black woman is a no brainer for white people on who to pick but we’ll see when she has to face off some blonde from another country. Maybe Madison just needs to have her Obama moment of seeing frothing, bigoted white people root against her for no reason to see there’s a big problem and wanting to claim white as much as Black ain’t all that great. We’ll see.

Lastly, with all that said...yes, I love the image and the Williams have paved the way for all these girls. People will start to realize when it comes to greatness, it always involves Blackness.

You want Madison to have an Indian Wells moment? What the fuck is wrong with you?

And she just faced a “pretty” white blonde. From her own country, though. The crowd was silent because Madison is a great player already. The few who were trying to root for Coco did just that: tried. Madison played lights out.

You don’t think Madison’s the one? Nobody has been “the one” since Venus and Serena came on the scene. Madison has potential. As does Sloane. Whoever wins will have deserved it.

I’m just curious because you’re posting some wild shit. Is Naomi Osaka (and her sister) forsaking her blackness because she plays for Japan instead of Haiti or the US? Is she not the one because she finds her Japanese heritage important enough to play for their federation?

Being Japanese is not equivalent to being a white American. I’m not even sure where to begin to explain the huge difference. I looked her up and she was born in Osaka and appears to still live there...this analogy just doesn’t sync up in anyway. What is “white” heritage. There’s German heritage, English heritage, etc. The only time you hear white heritage in America is in connection with KKK, Confederate statues and the like.

I just responded to your last comment so I’m imaging you’re feeling I’m just going in for no reason or just being rude but I stand by my challenges on people “identifying” as white. And as far as having a Indian Wells moment, as I said, I think Madison will have to have a Obama like moment of realizing that white supremacy is real and whiteness is real and based on the oppression of Black and brown people. What that moment will be, I don’t know. I haven’t fully investigated what her opinions are on race. I presuming that what people are saying is true that she is trying to distance herself from being Black to align with being white. If that’s the case, I do support a come to jesus moment which will only set her free of white supremacy.

I’ll support her since the Williams sisters can’t carry on this tradition professionally forever. But I’m still sour for Venus’ defeat.

My logic is that I root for the person that beats Venus, thus affirming the inevitability of their success...unless it’s someone I hate of course. But as I grow older, I find that I’m hating fewer people.

I’m so hype for this. Don’t even follow tennis regularly but this developing story has me hooked and I love it.

A true beacon of light in a harbor of iniquity right now.

For an article about two black women making the finals, you mentioned absolutely nothing about Keys except that she’s black.. I gotta google just to get some background.
