Or if you’re in Polk, Lake or Sumter Counties…

    • Get your meth together.
    • Make sure no-one knows where your stash is.
    • Take some meth. And extra meth if possible.
    • Check the evacuation route. Know where the cops are going…
    • Pack wisely. Take more meth than you need. Don’t forget meth for kids…
    • Secure your lab.
    • Get out!

Agreed except for one little point - no one in the history of meth has ever ended up with extra meth

I should probably also have phrased it as “Don’t forget kids for meth”!

    3 to 4 months!?!??

Lord, forgive me for asking, but what has Puerto Rico ever done to you?? Zeus! These people can’t seem to catch a freaking break! First the mainland’s “governing”, then hedge funds vultures, and now Irma??

Universe, please give these people a break!

Technically, “first” was Christopher Columbus - the native Tainos of Puerto Rico were the first indigenous peoples he eradicated from this earth with dogs, diseases, and dicks... (I’ve talked about the history of this in a few other threads: http://www.theroot.com/1798671052)

But the Taino people live on in our Boricua DNA.

      3 to 4 months!?!??

(also, the article said 4 to 6 months, not 3 to 4 months, which is even more insane. I don’t believe in God, but if anyone is listening, yes, a fucking break would be appreciated for Borinquén...)

Ooops, yes, I read 4 to 6 months but wrote 3-4, not sure why.

Ughh, yup. My mother’s country is right next to Puerto Rico, and they share a lot of things in common, including the piece of shit Chris Columbus’ contributions to the“development” of their society.

I was actually writing in regards to their more recent misfortunes. It has been really, really hard couple of years for them. My heart breaks for the shitty situation that they are in, but also for the lack of compassion that is extended to them. Because apparently if you are too dumb to allow the US government (which is their government as well) to fuck you over, well you obviously deserve it.

When Earth Wind and Fire was just dust, breeze and sparks.

Bobdamnit Michael, you never fail to make me laugh XD

Living in a hurricane-prone area, I’m going to add on to your list with a few things people don’t always think about:

    - buckets with tight lids (like those orange 5 gallon buckets with lids you can get at Home Depot) are extremely useful

    - non-electric can openers are a handy tool many people forget about packing

    - shut off your water, gas, and electricity at the main switch for your house when you evacuate!

Do you know how long “ever” is? It’s before Frankie Beverly met Maze. Before Donald Trump went bald. When Earth, Wind and Fire was just dust, breeze and sparks. “Ever” is a long-ass time.

I have not finished the article yet, and I will, but I felt that these sentences here? these sentences HERE, Michael? these sentences right HERE, Michael? These were the best thing that have happened so far to-day.

I feel like the press really wants this to be a thing and it just isn’t. Rockport took a beating, but it affected a very small number of people. Up here in Houston, we got some rains overnight, but no damaging winds. This morning it has been on and off. If you live near a bayou, you’re probably nervous about the rain over the next week, but for the rest of us, drainage is keeping up with things.

I can’t even imagine 60" of rain in hours. That would be unprecedented and I’m not sure it’s even possible

    About that...

    http://www.houstonchronicle.com/life/article/Hurricane-Harvey-by-the-numbers-12172287.php

A lot of rain. The total of 51.88 inches is a new record for rain totals from one storm in the continental United States. Though, that might change, as Belles said the rain gauge that collected that information was damaged and stopped recording rain amounts.

Irma hit islands in the Caribbean early Wednesday with winds blowing 185 miles per hour, causing major damage in Barbados and Antigua.

Correction: It’s Barbuda, not Barbados which saw minimal damage. Verified by the half dozen family members I just contacted in a panic. Thanks for that.

Almost a full 24 hours, multiple comments, and still apparently correcting an error that conflates two completely different islands isn’t worth the time.

Usually people who are that cavalier about the difference between Barbuda, Barbados, and Bermuda are much, much paler than Michael. I expect more from The Root.
