Bennett can be heard asking the officer why he’s being cuffed. He even calls the officer “sir”.

This shit makes me angry and sad.

I’ve seen a lot of police shooting video but the one I always remember is the gas station video from NC where the dude manages to keep his hands in air and still call the fucker cop sir after getting shot in the hip for no reason.

Michael Bennett is one of the realest athletes in sports. I appreciate him putting this out there and shedding more light on the exact things Kap is protesting about.

Don’t read the comments though. They’re full of wypipo trying to figure out what Bennett did wrong. One Becky actually asked if Bennett met the description of the suspect, and if he did, what were they supposed to do? (The idea that an officer can question someone without cuffing them and assaulting then was lost on the poor, stupid as fuck white person.)

I don’t know how much more proof wypipo need that something is wrong here. Or maybe they just don’t care at all.

They know and they don’t care. White folk love to laugh along when we commiserate about police brutality.

Look, the video clearly shows Bennett’s not even trying to look white. What do you expect the officer to do? Treat him like a real human being despite years of training?

Plus none of this would even have been an issue if Colin Kaepernick hadn’t invented it due to his hatred of America.

Wow, the grays are back to their old “more white people get shot by cops” horseshit again. So without pulling you fucking morons out of the pit, here’s some reality:

Just stop with your bullshit. Seriously. Of course more white people get killed by cops every year - there are 130 MILLION more white people than black people in this country. But that stupid bullshit argument is completely bereft of anything resembling the ability to take all the facts, not just the cherry picked ones y’all love so much, and complete the picture. So I’ll do it for you.

There are somewhere between 6 or 7 times more white people than black people in America.

Take the number of Black people killed by police and multiply that by 6 or 7 so you can see what it would look like if there were as many Black people as White people. Black people account for less than 15% of the US population but account for 26% of the people killed by law enforcement. Comparatively, white people are 62% of the country and only account for 50% of the killed by cops number. Are you getting the fucking picture? Do you understand math?

Those are facts, supported by evidence, cited, and not up for debate.

Now shut your fucking mouths you ignorant fucks.

and that will only be what was reported. as far as i know police shootings do NOT need to be reported

The FBI’s annual crime report does keep track of homicides reported by police as justified killings by police. As defined by the FBI, “justifiable homicide by law enforcement” means “the killing of a felon by a peace officer in the line of duty.” From 2000 to 2014, the FBI reported an average of 390 justifiable homicides by police each year, with a very slight (but erratic) upward trend.

The obvious question was, how many unjustifiable killings were committed by law enforcement? There is no report for that at all: unjustified homicides by police would, in theory, be recorded as generic murders.

Moreover, because police departments themselves decide what is justifiable, there’s plenty of room for doubt about whether all those homicides really were justified — or whether police actually reported all of their killings.

It’s sad but not surprising. When you have the president saying shit like “give them a bumpy ride” and the people there laugh and shit. They forget what a constitution is until you mention one word. GUN. They want to act like it’s ok to do all of this to black men and women. This is an NFL athlete. If he wanted to hurt them it would have been very ver easy to do it. He complied and on TMZ you still have people saying dumb shit. I’m convinced that to them every black man, woman and child is guilty of something. I’m trying not to be anti-white but when you se this and then see how they rationalize it, it pisses you off.

Not to jump all in your convo, but I’m in the EXACT same headspace:

They get a PERMANENT and HARD side-eye, and a “IDFWU” until they earn more privileges- MAYBE 4-5 over the span of my lifetime, if that. Applies to relatives as well, because some of them think blood/marriage = a Free invite to the CookOut, and it always is a shock when/if they get turned away at the door...smh

The only unions I’m ok with getting busted are the police unions. Once their toxic presence is removed, it’ll be tons easier to reform police departments and clean house.

I remember when Thabo Sefolosha got his leg broken by the NYPD a few years ago. The cops made up some insane story that none of them could keep straight and Thabo had the money to fight it. I think the city ended up awarding him like 4 million. If he’s just a regular guy, it would have been swept under the rug. I can’t imagine the countless similar stories with no one to advocate for them.

Goddammit. I live in Seattle and was listening to sports radio this morning when Bennett released this statement. Applaud the hosts for having, or attempting to have, a real conversation about it - even bringing on a POC who works on the following show to talk about it from his perspective. Still, there’s the inevitable apologists immediately flooding their text machine with vitriol about how the BLM movement is to blame for this, and how else are LEOs supposed to react, and wondering what Bennett said or did to provoke this, or did he meet the description, etc.

Hey fellow white folks, remember those conversations we’ve had about questioning the validitiy or blaming the victims of rape and sexual assault? You’re doing the same fucking thing here when you wonder ‘did he meet a description, or blaming the BLM movement, or asking for the ‘proof’.

Now TMZ is reporting sources “connected to the investigation” that contradict Bennett’s version of events. Namely that he was still there when police arrived and after they ordered everyone to get down Bennett ran which is why they took him down. There’s no way, no matter the timing, Bennett was the only person running from that situation. I have no doubt why they singled him out though. Hopefully there’s more video out there showing the events that lead up to the existing video to make it that much easier for Bennett to take a Civil Rights lawsuit as far as humanly possible.

Side note: I don’t normally visit TMZ. I thought the trolls here were pretty bad. The comment sections there are vile. Holy crap.
