What’s going to happen is they’re going to attach DACA to some ridiculous republican wet dream and dare democrats not to pass it. Something like paying for a border wall, make taking down a confederate monument a federal hate crime, or labeling Planned Parenthood as a terrorist organization.

‘We had a bill, but democrats refused to pass it’

Let ‘em attach it to border wall funding. (And if they’d throw reauthorizing 245i in there while they’re at it, I’ll be even less mad.)

Seriously. Billions of dollars are going to be wasted anyway and the worst the wall will do is make our country look as racist as it is. It’s not actually going to do much of anything at all and it’s probably happening one way or another.

Let’s get something good out of it.

On principle I would rather fight the wall and put that money towards bridges and dams. Additionally I would rather the republicans get called out on their shit and make sure everyone knows they tried to sneak a wall in with DACA which seems like the ultimate contradiction.

Nothing makes me angrier than Republicans calling things Obama did a “presidential overreach.” Like, if you motherfuckers were capable of doing your actual jobs, then he wouldn’t have had to do this shit. Fl...fl...flame...flames. Flames on the side of my face.

Yeah, I was listening to NPR this morning and they had a republican congressman on saying how it was Obama’s fault Congress didn’t tackle DACA. My head basically exploded.

You know all bills originate in the House right? Not the White House, the House of Representatives. The one you’re in. That was your job to get the process started, not Obama’s.

Congressional orientation should include this I guess:

I have a feeling that Barack won’t need Luther for this one.

No, Obama should say nothing and stay out of this. Sure, it’s a shitty result, but you know what —the overwhelming majority of WHITE MEN in this country, 53% OF WHITE WOMEN, 15% of LATINOS, ESPECIALLY CUBANS, votes for this asshole knowing he was a sexist, racist pig. They wanted this result. And when President Obama, First Lady Michelle, Biden and others criss-crossed this country during the Presidential campaign, warning voters what they were voting for if they didnt support HRC, NO ONE LISTENED. Who gives a fuck what Obama has to say now that he’s out of power? We love him, we all love him, but when it mattered, we turned our backs on President Obama and on a balanced Supreme Court (for the first time in a half century!), fair voting rights, civil rights, criminal justice reform, workers’ rights, equal pay for women, AND THESE DREAMERS! Because her emails! Because of her pants suits! Because she and her husband pulled themselves out of a lower middle class to the upper echelons of our country, and yet, somehow, we deride them! Because she stayed with her cheating husband! Because many listened an old ass Jewish socialist, who accomplished little in 40 years in Congress and now, we think he holds the key to American values?? Please!

We elected a man who wants nothing more than to place every single accomplishment of President Obama on the trash heap because he’s a sick, twisted, jealous, racist freak! And the majority of white folks and too many Latinos voted for him anyway. We reap what we sow. Buh, bye, dreamers. You had a good run.

Three things strike me about this:

    a) Jesus Fucking Christ. How much did this speech make Trump feel he had to reverse EVERYTHING Obama did during his Presidency?

    b) Once again, it is patently clear that Trump doesn’t know how to DO anything. He had Sessions - may his heart burst into flames inside his living chest - deliver the speech and is deferring it to Congress to come up with “better legislation.” So basically, he wants to unwind something, but he doesn’t know how to do it, so he just passes the buck to the worst people possible.

    c) Melania Knauss got a green card within 5 years of landing in the US - in the oh-so-vital trade of fashion modeling as her labor “in” - and that was within three years of starting to date Donald Trump. In 2006, she gained full citizenship - that means she gained full citizenship with the minimum time requirement of holding a green card (5 years), and one year after marrying Trump.

Meanwhile, many Liberians have gotten screwed while building lives here. (This article is a decade-old, but the TPS status of Liberians basically lasted through late last year and finally terminated this May.)

So yeah, this pisses me off on about a million levels. Immigration status is not something that is something you just pay a staffer to take care of if you want your new hot piece of ass to be legal. (Well, okay, it is something you pay a lawyer to take care of, but for most people, the costs in time, logistics, and money are outrageously high.) He is messing with people’s lives in a way that can absolutely destroy them. All so he can stop feeling so butt-hurt that a black man with exponentially more class and intelligence than himself made fun of him for being a stupid asshole.

I think our immigration system is pretty damn broken and I haven’t seen a whole lot of solid moves towards fixing it in the past 15 years or so. But DACA was one of the most sane and humane first steps we could have taken to overhaul the system to reflect modern immigration process. Dreamers had no say in their immigration status - some were not even aware they were illegal immigrants - and very few, if any, remember any “home” other than the United States. To strip them of that protection is just wanton heartlessness and stupidity and cowardice.
