To make matters worse, these people have applied for DACA protections which means their records are on file, and they’ll be the easiest to round up.

In most cases they’d be sent to places they’ve never known, and often not even speaking the language. Just completely disgusting.

I also find it difficult to believe they’ll be able to round up 800,000 people who grew up as part of their communities without some serious push back. If Congress doesn’t act, there will be bloodshed.

It’s also a brain/labor drain on our economy. We’re losing or will lose much talent by going forward with this.

But that’s cool, cause I know those coal miners can make the great leap forward, er, I mean MAGA

I think we need to start talking seriously about either acting as physical barricades when ICE comes knocking or hiding people in our homes.

Last year the student body president of my middle school revealed to me in a private conversation that his parents are DREAMers. When Trump was elected, his anxiety was palpable. He’s one of the most optimistic kids I’ve ever taught, and he was universally adored in our school, so even though he was worried, he never let it drag him down. He bounced down the halls giving high fives to everyone who needed one and made sure the younger kids got to where they were going without interference from bullies.

When this news broke over the weekend, I couldn’t stop thinking about that boy and his family. I HATE how powerless I feel to stop these terrible things from happening. Fuck Donald Trump and fuck Jeff Sessions.

The Democrats need to refuse to negotiate on this I am afraid.

They cannot cave to another demand of the republicans in exchange for restoration of DACA protections. I mean look at what is expected to be announced:

DACA cancellation with 6 months delay. Its built in that DACA can be used by the Republicans as a Carrot in Tax reform, Healthcare reform, Debt ceiling, you name it.

The Democrats need to have some stomach and refuse to be baited like this.

Exactly. The 6 months is to feel the political winds. Trump could care less about the lives of these people one way or another which is one of the more sad things to say. Hopefully this will go the way of his great Muslin ban, but who knows nowadays.

This is so fucked. I was talking to an immigration attorney in the Philly area the other day. Normally, he has about 38 cases of people being detained from the tri-state area a year. Since Trump took office, he has 250 new cases in Philly alone. He’s had to hire 7 new employees to handle the cases. It is an outrage.

I see what you did there, and I like it. I made the mistake of commenting on the Lifehacker article about DACA, so my hackles have been up.

This whole argument about whether or not DACA is a legislative issue is bullshit. Of course it’s a legislative issue. But those chickenshits in the House and Senate never enacted any legislation to make DACA the law of the land. That’s why the greatest president of my lifetime, President Barack Obama, had to step up and exercise his power to mandate an executive order to make DACA a reality. Now all these idiots in Congress are scrambling to not piss off the majority while at the same time sucking the dicks of their racist base. I’d laugh at them squirming if it weren’t for the fact that 800,000 lives are on the line.

My grandfather was an illegal alien, became a flight engineer and flew/fought in WWII. It’s only through my family’s persistence that I’m blessed enough to teach in a university where I’ve encountered MANY dreamers who were among the brightest young minds around. Any minority understands the extent to which we have to do things “better” or “cleaner” and—even then—without the expectation of equality.

This decision’s ignorance is only exceeded by the cruelty and selfishness of its author.
